Ed Brown, a resident of the American state of New Hampshire, gained national news media attention in January 2007 for refusing to pay his taxes and refusing to surrender to federal government agents. [1]. He has barricaded himself in his home with armed supporters through most of his tax evasion trial, stating he will defend himself against capture if necessary. He quoted Gen. John Stark's "Live free or die" message in an interview with WNTK-FM in New London, New Hampshire. [2]
Tax Evasion
Ed Brown and his wife Elaine Brown have been found guilty of tax evasion on January 18, 2007. The Brown's sentencing is scheduled for April 24, 2007. [3]
Ed and Elaine Brown's reasoning for not paying taxes is simply that they have not been presented with any statute or law that requires them to pay income taxes. [4]
