The Fallen One's original state is unknown. Eons ago, Galactus empowered the Fallen One in his first attempt at creating a Herald. Unlike the other later Heralds, the Fallen One was empowered by dark energy instead of the Power Cosmic. Post-empowerment, he appears to be of a humanoid race and of similar proportions to the Silver Surfer in stature, with skin colored black or darkest blue, and a mane of hair to match.

When Thanos of Total battled the maker in the Kyln, power was shut down to many portions of the Kyln. Without power flowing into the prison, the Fallen One escaped the Kyln and again sought vengeance on Galactus. As the Fallen One confronted Galactus, Thanos mentally tried to reason with the Fallen One, reminding him of Galactus special purpose in the universe. The Fallen One justified himself saying that Galactus knew it's true nature when he made the Fallen One what he is, and still cast him out. Galactus decided to simultaneously alleviate his own problems and spite Thanos, teleporting Fallen One to Thanos ship. The Fallen One's powerful energy attack devastated Thanos giant ship. Surviving unscathed, Thanos and his new ally Skreet overpowered the Fallen One sending him to the core of a gas giant and ignited it. Thanos mentally enslaved Fallen One's unconscious form, so when he awoke he would serve as Thanos own herald, as well as provide him with information as to it's source of unlimited energy.
Eventually Galactus became tired of the Fallen One's insanity and cruelty and imprisoned him. The Fallen One eventually escaped this prison and immediately attacked Galactus, who defeated his ex-herald and bound him again. Due to the endless source of energy provided him by Galactus, the Fallen One was doomed to eventually escape his prison and in anger, seek revenge again. After countless defeats, the Fallen One was defeated by Star-Lord Peter Quill at a great cost of life. He was then imprisoned in the Kyln, a super prison at the edge of the Marvel universe, a place known as The Crunch.

When Thanos warred with the Maker at the Kyln, the destruction freed the Fallen One, who set out again to attack Galactus. Thanos then defeated the Fallen One, hit him with some sort of a cosmic lobotomy and made him his Herald.
When the Annihilation Wave struck and the Kyln was destroyed, Thanos dispatched the Fallen One to check the makers status. The Fallen One was captured and drained of energy by Tenebrous and Aegis, two ancient enemies of Galactus who hoped to use him to find their opponent.

Fallen One is a fictional character in the Marvel Comics Universe. He was a Herald of Galactus whose tenure predates that of the Silver Surfer — long thought to have been the first herald. He now serves as the "Herald" of Thanos.

Character history

Long before the Silver Surfer, Galactus first herald was the Fallen One; recruited/created under unknown circumstances, his true name was forgotten over the millenia. Eventually, the Fallen One was cast out by Galactus, possibly for his naturally corrupt, power hungry, and violent nature. The Fallen One was imprisoned many times over many centuries, upon each escape he immediately targeted Galactus, who always defeated him. Eventually , the Fallen One was brought down by Star-Lord. However, the energies required caused massive collateral damage, leaving 350,000 dead. The Fallen One was kept in a creche in the Kyln's Omega Core, a massive intergalactic maximum security prison.

When the Annihilation Wave struck and the Kyln was destroyed, Thanos dispatched the Fallen One to check the makers status. The Fallen One was captured and drained of energy by Tenebrous and Aegis, two ancient enemies of Galactus who hoped to use him to find their opponent.

The Fallen One

The Fallen One is empowered with the dark energy, similar to how Galactus's other heralds have received the Power Cosmic. When Galactus dismissed other Heralds, he has removed the Power Cosmic from them. However, the Fallen One has retained his empowerment of dark energy despite countless failed attempts on Galactus's life. Thanos speculated that the Fallen One's continuing existence and empowerment is a show of guilt on Galactus' part (Thanos #12).

Most dangerous of all is the Fallen One's psychotic nature and probable lack of morals. For this he was banished from Galactus' side and earned his current title/name.
