Smart was a secret agent, code-named Agent 86, for a fictitious government [[counterintelligence]] agency called [[CONTROL]]. The character was portrayed by stand-up comedian [[Don Adams]]. Adams reprised the role in ''[[The Nude Bomb]]'', ''[[Get Smart, Again]]'' and a brief 1995 revival of the ''Get Smart'' series, in which Smart became the "Chief" of CONTROL.
