{{User|Sobar}} - I am a qualified candidate who has been a Wikipedian for more than a year. I have never committed any vandalism, and I am a user on Wikinews and Wiktionary. I also use Wikiversity and Wikibooks quite often. I am extremely interested in the "wiki revolution", and I have attempted (unfortunately to no avail) to create my own wiki-based website. Because I myself never received a welcome when I was a new user, I have joined the Welcoming Committee and many other groups that welcome and encourage new users. #'''Neutral'''. Your desire to help out is appreciated but it does not appear you have the necessary experience and community trust for adminship. I would recommend withdrawing this request, taking some time to familiarize yourself better with policy, become more active in various aspects of the project and do some more work to establish yourself. NOTE TO ALL: I am planning to add a more detailed explanation of why I am running for admin and what I plan to do as admin on a subpage of my user page on 20th August 2007. You may want to hold off discussing this until I have uploaded the aforementioned page. Or, if you would like, you may continue to discuss me being an admin without reading this. The link will be [[User:Sobar/Admin|here]]. [[User:Sobar|Sobar]] 01:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Thanks everyone. I'm withdrawing. I need more experience. I thought you would have trust in me, but I guess I do need much more than that. At least I can credit you for being very strict as to who becomes an admin.
Thanks again.

Candidate, please indicate acceptance of the nomination here: I accept the nomination. I withdraw my nomination.

I would love to be an administrator, and I promise to use this position for the good of the entire Wikipedia community. I might also mention that I have five years of experience in newspaper publishing and journalism, and am currently working on several non-fiction and fiction books.

Questions for the candidate

Dear candidate, thank you for offering to serve Wikipedia as an administrator. You may wish to answer the following optional questions to provide guidance for participants:

1. What admin work do you intend to take part in?
A: I would really like to start some new committees, and change some existing policies. A lot of the site is very technical - even I, a technology geek, does not know a lot of the system by which Wikipedia gets edited. I want to have a bigger say with the home page, I think it's time for a major overhaul that makes it a tad more colorful and attractive but yet still informative and easy to use. I really want to take part in welcoming new users, and congratulating and encouraging existing users.
2. What are your best contributions to Wikipedia, and why?
Because I read a lot, and go to my local library every single day, I would say that my best contributions are those that most people probably otherwise never knew about. For example, on the Walpole, MA page, I have done some heavy editing, and added some information that probably a lot of people did not know. On the Lee Harvey Oswald page, I have done some work, as well as various other pages. Basically, my best contributions are those that caused me to learn something new. When I learn something, I share it on Wikipedia. Hope that wasn't too long an answer.
3. Have you been in any conflicts over editing in the past or have other users caused you stress? How have you dealt with it and how will you deal with it in the future?
I created two new pages in the past (Walpole_Gazette and Business_Creation), and both have since been deleted. When I created the pages I was an amateur, and was more interested in promoting myself rather than the world around us. I am glad that my immature pages were deleted, and I actually took the liberty of REQUESTING that the Business_Creation page be deleted, because I was so embarassed that I had made it. In fact, I was surprised it hadn't been deleted sooner. The Walpole_Gazette page deletion discussion involved a very minor conflict, where basically all of the other users discussing deleting the page were against me. I desperately wanted to keep the page, and after the conflict ended (and the page was deleted), I simply went back to Wikipedia and continued as an average user. In the future, I would probably stand up for my actions, and if I regret my actions, I would admit it.

Optional question from Eddie:

4. What is the "wiki-revolution"?

Oppose

  1. Oppose - Very few recent edits, and contributions like this don't give me much confidence of an understanding of policyiridescent (talk to me!) 01:22, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
On closer inspectionyou have less than 100 total edits - I'd suggest withdrawing now before it gets closed under WP:SNOWiridescent (talk to me!) 01:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Again, I admitted that I was an amateur at one time (so were you), and made some stupid pages. I personally allowed them to be deleted. I have a huge chance of being chosen as an administrator, so this SNOW is not relevant. I'm not going to back down now. It took almost a month for me to finally make up my mind to nominate myself (alas, no one else would nominate me) for administrator. Those 100 edits are edits that I am proud of, and will stand behind. Those edits often mean that I have paid attention to detail and have attempted to get the facts straight because some other careless user did not. Those edits always mean that new information is being disseminated. Those edits represent a responsible user.Sobar 01:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  2. Oppose Your answer to Q1 tells me you're requesting for the wrong reasons - admins do none of those things. Majorly (talk) 01:24, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
What are you talking about? Admins do most, if not all of those things. And even if they didn't, I would certainly change that. I would describe admins as being a mix between teachers and students. They lead the way, but yet they also learn a lot in the process. By changing the home page, I am being bold, one of Wikipedia's primary mottos, and when I propose to make the entire website much more user-friendly, I am making Wikipedia more popular, easier to use, and ultimately more appealing to users who may have wanted to walk away. Average users do NOT have any way of doing any of this, except by suggesting it. Suggestions pile up, and no one seems to care if a miscellaneous user is concerned about whether the home page is CRAMPED and HARD TO READ. As an admin, all suggestions will be read, forwarded to the correct person, and action will be taken.Sobar 01:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  3. Weak Oppose - You haven't made a solid case for why you need admin buttons, and your editing contributions are limited. I'd suggest some more encyclopedia building experience on WP before coming for an RfA. Majoreditor 01:26, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  4. Strong Oppose You have been here for over a year and three months, and only have 92 edits, and only 48 of those are mainspace. 2)per this comment this. 3)You answer to Q1, as was mentioned by Majorly, shows very little knowledge of what is an admins job, while it is also for the wrong reasons. I suggest withdrawl, before WP:SNOW. Get more edits, more experience, and read over what an admins job is, and I will support you in the future. Politics rule 01:37, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. I appreciate the advice, but I will do that only it is unanimous that I should not be an admin. Sobar 01:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  5. Oppose Might I suggest WP:TW and WP:AVT? They help admins with their tasks by cleaning up stuff and reporting things to lighten the load on admins. I'd like to see some work in this area before I would take an RfA from you more seriously. J-stan TalkContribs 01:42, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
Very nice idea. Maybe we all should take part in this. Wouldn't that be nice? As admin, I would encourage users to get involved. These are great ways to do so.Sobar 01:55, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  6. Oppose per all the above concerns. --Siva1979Talk to me 01:54, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  7. (3 ec)[1] and Q1. Giggy Talk 01:57, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  8. Oppose Not enough experience, no sensible justification for wanting adminship given, and far too much 'tude in responses here. Greglocock 01:58, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
  9. Oppose- per the concerns above and the rather rude replies to opposers. --Boricuaeddie 01:59, 20 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Neutral

  1. Neutral. Your desire to help out is appreciated but it does not appear you have the necessary experience and community trust for adminship.
