The eastern mudsnail, Nassarius obsoletus, is a very common, small, subtidal gastropod in the family Nassariidae, found in the western Atlantic Ocean from Nova Scotia to Georgia.
It lives in inertidal zones, sounds and inlets. 1/2 inch small shell with a slightly rough surface. Weak spiral and axial ribs. Lower canal on oval aperture. Smooth inner lip with partial shield. Outer lip thin and smooth. Chalky white exterior, covered by dark brown periostracum.
