Patruljekompagniet

Patruljekompagniet (The Patrol Company or PTL COY) is the only remaining long range survelliance company (LRSC) in the Danish Armed Forces. Patruljekompagniet is a part of the Danish National Guard, and the only one of it's kind, working directly for the Danish Army. Patruljekompagniet was founded in 1995 when the Special Intelligence Patrols (SEP) was disbanded. To read more about the other capabilities of the Danish Home Guard Patrols see this: Hjemmeværnets Patruljer

Special Intelligence Patrols (SEP)

The Special Intelligence Patrols (SEP) was founded during the early cold war years and was speciallised in collecting tactical intelligence behind enemy lines. Originally by using static observation sites but later on by insertable intelligence patrols operating behind enemy lines.

The heir of the Special Intelligence Patrols has not been forgotten and the basic skills and special reconaissance capabilities has been maintained and developed within the Patruljekompagniet. During the cold war and until the turn of the century SEP and later on Patruljekompagniet cross-trained with British TA Special Air Service units from 21 SAS (Artists' Rifles) and 23 SAS when they visited Denmark during large scale NATO excersises.

Combatswimmers

Patruljekompagniet has the capabillity to insert patrols covertly from the sea, due to their training with the Danish Navy SEALs / Navy Special Operations Forces (the Danish Frogman Corps). They are trained as scoutswimmers/combatswimmers and are capable of different kinds of covert surface insertions.

SSR

From beginning of the year 2007 Patruljekompagniet change name into Hjemmeværnets Særlig- Støtte og Rekognosceringskompagni (SSR) - the Special Service and Reconnaisance Coy. Patruljekompagniet was no longer avalible only to the Danish Army Operational Command (DAOC) but to all the Danish Defence Commands e.g. the Danish Navy Operational Command. This marked the end of Patruljekompagniet and the beginning of an new era for this historical specialised unit.
