Prior to 1972, The "Piru Street Boys" were loosely affiliated with the [[Crips]], and for a short time were even known as the Piru Street Crips. After a conflict with the [[Crips]] in summer of 1972, the Pirus ceased relations with the Crips. Outnumbered, they along with several other smaller street gangs decided to form an alliance to combat the Crips. To show their opposition to the Crips who were known by then to wear predominately blue, the new alliance chose red as their color. This alliance eventually became known as the [[Bloods]]. Years later after joining the Bloods, because of differences, Piru hoods dropped the Bloods and just became Pirus. Now Pirus wear burgundy, while the Bloods wear red. |
