Suture (gastropod)

The sutures of the gastropod Placostylus ambagiosus priscus are where the shell coils join, on the right in this photograph.

In most gastropod molluscs the whorls are like a corkscrew with each coil touching the previous. The joint where the coils touch is called the suture.
