Piczo is an online photo website builder and community, for generation of free advertising-supported websites.
Piczo was launched in 2004. It is popular with teens, though adults are using it too. Using plain text and HTML, signed-in users can add images, text content, guestbooks, message boxes, videos, glitters, shout-outs, personal pages, profile pages, and more to their site. Partners include YouTube, VideoEgg, Photobucket and Flock.
While originally made for photos and friends, all sorts of sites exist on pizco today including fansites and stories.
Popularity
Piczo is popular in youth culture and Internet culture and saw 10.2 million visitors worldwide in August 2006. Among ages thirteen to fifteen, the web researcher Nielsen/NetRatings says that Piczo was the fastest-growing online brand in the UK in 2006 with girls and boys under 18 accounting for almost half its audience. [1]. Piczo is also popular in other countries such as Canada[2]. Piczo supports four languages: English, German, French, and Spanish. Many features were added between 2006 and 2007, including safety features, pre-made layouts, more photo storage, profile pages, glitters and video.
On Saturday, September 22, 2007, the Piczo Zone, a user-generated content site that integrates with users' personal web sites made its first appearance to Piczo Insiders. Another feature is "The Board" where Piczo informs users on Html and Internet safety.
