Parts of a Animal or Plant Cell
There are several parts of a cell. Some parts are only in plant cell but not in animal cells.

1. Cell Membrane is a semipermeable lipid bilayer found in all cells. It contains a wide variety of biological molecules, primarily proteins and lipids, which are involved in a vast array of cellular processes, and also serves as the attachment point for both the intracellular cytoskeleton.

2. Cytoplasm is a gelatinous, semi-transparent fluid that fills most cells. Eukaryotic cells contain a nucleus that is kept separate from the cytoplasm by a double membrane layer.

3. Nucleus is a membrane-enclosed organelle found in most eukaryotic cells. It contains most of the cell's genetic material, organized as multiple long linear DNA molecules in complex with a large variety of proteins, such as histones, to form chromosomes.

4. Vacuoles are found in the cytoplasm of most plant cells and some animal cells. Vacuoles are membrane-bound compartments within some eukaryotic cells that can serve a variety of secretory, excretory, and storage functions.

5. Mitochondria are sometimes described as "cellular power plants," because they generate most of the cell's supply of adenosine triphosphate (ATP), used as a source of chemical energy. In addition to supplying cellular energy, mitochondria are involved in a range of other processes, such as cell signaling, cellular differentiation, apoptosis, as well as the control of the cell cycle and cell growth.

6. Endoplasmic Reticulum is an organelle found in all eukaryotic cells that is an interconnected network of tubules, vesicles and cisternae.

7. Cell Wall is a fairly rigid layer surrounding a cell, located external to the cell membrane, which provides the cell with structural support, protection, and acts as a filtering mechanism. The cell wall also prevents over-expansion when water enters the cell. They are found in plants, bacteria, archaea, fungi, and algae. Animals and most protists do not have cell walls.

8. Chloroplasts are organelles found in plant cells and eukaryotic algae that conduct photosynthesis. Chloroplasts absorb light and use it in conjunction with water and carbon dioxide to produce sugars, the raw material for energy and biomass production in all green plants and the animals that depend on them, directly or indirectly, for food.

  • From a phrase: This is a redirect from a phrase to a more general relevant article covering the topic.
    • Phrases should only have an individual article when there is enough (usually historical background) material to warrant a detailed article on the genesis and sociological impact of the phrase in question.
    • If the phrase is a catchphrase, use R from catchphrase; if it is a slogan, then use R from slogan; if it is a quotation, then use R from quotation.
