The Cell Saga is the third story arc in Dragon Ball Z. It focuses on the battles the Z Warriors have against androids, and later the artificial "perfect warrior" named Cell, who intends to destroy the Earth.

It is split into several sagas:

Trunks Saga

 ==Trunks Saga==
-Whilst waiting for [[Goku (dragonball)|Goku]] to arrive, the Z-fighters sense that [[Freeza]] is en route to Earth and, with [[Bulma]], meet near the suspected landing point. Before they can act however, a mysterious [[super saiyan]] arrives and kills Freeza and his father, [[King Cold]]. Shortly after, Goku arrives. The mysterious young saiyan, [[Future Trunks|Trunks]], takes him aside and gives him the warning that in 3 years, two androids will appear and begin a 'reign of terror,' giving Goku the details of when and how this will happen. He also warns Goku that he will fall victim to a [[Heart Disease]] before this, and will die unless he takes the antidote that Trunks has brought for him. Finally, he reveals that he is from the future, and is the son of [[Vegeta]] and Bulma. The Z-fighters, armed with this warning, begin training.

-Three years after Trunk's warning, Goku, [[Son Gohan|Gohan]], [[Piccolo (Dragon Ball)|Piccolo]], [[Yamucha]], [[Tenshinhan]] and [[Kuririn]] make their way to the city that is supposed to be the target of the androids. Yamcha is the first to find the two - [[Android_19#Artificial_Human_.2319|Android 19]] and [[Android 20]]. They attack Yamcha, wounding him severely, before the other Z fighters arrive to save him. The androids and z-fighters agree to move to a more isolated area.
-There, Goku transforms into a super saiyan and begins his fight against Android 19. However, the heart virus predicted by Trunks kicks in after is transformation, and he is defeated easily by Android 19. A newly Super Saiyan Vegeta then destroys 19 with his Big Bang attack. Gero/20 then escapes to activate 17 and 18 while Goku is taken to Master Roshi's. Gero activates 17 and 18 and is then killed by them to prevent Dr. Gero from controlling them. They then activate Android 16 whose objective is to kill Goku. The androids the confront the Z fighters who were in pursuit of Gero and defeat them easily.

-After absorbing Android 17, Semi-Perfect Cell turns his attention to Android 18. Before he can act however, Vegeta and Trunks arrive. Vegeta boasts of his new power and, after Cell refuses to believe him, Vegeta transforms into his [[Super_Saiyan#Super_Saiyan_2nd_Grade|new form]]. Vegeta beats Cell easily, prompting Cell to appeal to Vegeta's pride. He says he can offer Vegeta a better challenge if he is allowed to reach his perfect form. Vegeta agrees, to the dismay of Trunks. Trunks tries to stop Cell, but Vegeta blocks this attempt. After finding Androids 18 and 16, and Kuririn, Cell flies over to them. Trunks makes a last effort to stop Cell, overpowering Vegeta, but is held back by Cell's solar flare. Cell then absorbs Android 18.
-The now Perfect Cell resumes his battle with Vegeta, and it soon becomes apparent that Vegeta is outmatched. Vegeta tries his powerful [[Vegeta#Abilities|Final Flash]] attack, but even this only manages to remove Cell's arm. Using Piccolo's healing ability, he quickly regrows this and defeats Vegeta with ease.
-Trunks, anxious to save his now unconscious father, powers up to [[Super_Saiyan#Super_Saiyan_2nd_Grade|Super Saiyan 2nd Grade]] to distract Cell, so that Kuririn can take Vegeta away. Trunks, reflecting on the damage the androids did to his own timeline, continues to increase his power level until cell admits that he is now more powerful than him. However, he gloats that this is irrelevant, as is speed is greatly diminished. When this becomes apparent to Trunks, he gives up. Cell however, does not kill Trunks, and instead declares that he will hold a competition in ten days time, in the hope that by then he will have a challenging opponent to face.

-In preparation for the tournament, Vegeta, Trunks and Piccolo use the [[Earth_%28Dragon_Ball%29#Room_of_Spirit_and_Time|Room of Space and Time]], Goku acquires a new guardian for the earth, Dende, and gathers the dragonballs, and Bulma repairs Android 16.
-While being reported onto the news, Goku takes on Cell but can't destroy him, as his power is roughly equal to Cell's. Goku picks a new fighter, his son Gohan. Gohan warns Cell of his inner power, which inly serves to cause Cell to try and trigger it to see what it's like. After Cell sends out his "children" to destroy the Z fighters, [[Android 16]]'s head is thrown out. Android 16 tells Gohan to use his inner power to defeat Cell, who had destroyed the android in the first place, and to save the nature that he loved. This prompts Gohan to attain the level of [[Super Saiyan 2]], and is then easily able to destroy Cell's children, before turning to Cell.
-Gohan easily over powers Cell, effortlessly deflecting Cell's most powerful kamehameha. With a punch, Gohan damages Cell's body enough to make him regurgitate [[Android 18]], downgrading Cell to his semi-perfect form. I retaliation, Cell decides to self-destruct, destroying the earth, though at the last minute, Goku uses instant transmission to take Cell away to King-Kai's planet, killing him and Cell.
-Cell, returns though, having managed to keep one of his cells intact, and fatally wounds Trunks. Vegeta tries to avenge his son, but is defeated by Cell also. Gohan loses the use of his left arm in saving Vegeta from death. Encouraged by the dead Goku's voice, Gohan uses a Kamahamaha against Cell, which Cell meets with his own. The two kamehameha's meet and a beam-struggle ensues. Piccolo, Tien, Yamcha and Krillin attempt to distract Cell, but it is only when Vegeta himself attacks Cell that Gohan is able to over power Cell, killing him for good.
