Anonymous sex is a form of one-night stand or casual sex between people who have very little or no history with each other, often engaging in sexual activity on the same day of their meeting and usually never seeing each other again afterwards.[1] The term Cruising is used to refer to looking for anonymous sex, usually in specific places where such activity is commonplace.[2][3] The internet is also a primary vehicle for people setting up anonymous sex. Anonymous sex can also take the form of prostitution, involving exchanges of money or drugs (particularly crack cocaine) for sex. [4][5]

Some people engage in anonymous sex because of a perceived thrill of the act.[6]

Risks

Anonymous sex is one of the highest-risk sexual activities, both as the sexual history of both partners are unknown to the other, and also because those engaging in anonymous sex are more likely to have a large number of partners. One study of homosexually active men in the UK found that those practicing anonymous sex are more likely to have unprotected anal intercourse.[7]

People engaging in anonymous sex also risk being the victims of a violent crime, such as rape or unwanted sex.
