The following are playable characters and main antagonists from the PlayStation RPG Xenogears.

Playable characters
===Fei===<!-- This section is linked from Xenogears -->

Fei Fong Wong is based on the legendary Chinese hero Wong Fei Hung of Guangdong, China. His name in katakana is written exactly the same as the Chinese hero. He is also referred to as the -Contact-, one of the continuous reincarnations of Abel, the sole survivor of the Eldridge crash. Abel was the first being to make contact with the Wave Existence. Fei would be the final incarnation of Abel, for once the Wave Existence was freed, the gene pool returned to normal. He was dropped off in Lahan by Wiseman, who is also Kahn, his father, and Grahf (they share a similar relationship, as Fei and Id do). After the destruction of Lahan Village, Fei joined with Citan Uzuki and other allies to uncover the web of deception and manipulation surrounding Solaris and, ultimately, System Deus. Fei is able to (involuntarily) become Id, a very powerful character who is the product of Fei's pain and anguish at a critically young age.

However, for a brief period of time in Disc 2 of Xenogears, the power of the persona created by Fei "Id" could be harnessed due to the help of one of the three sages of Shevat. System Id allows Fei to build up infinite AP and thus utilize 3 power moves. He ultimately finishes off Ramsus while under "System Id"; this mode utilizes Nanotechnology by Fei's wearing a restraint that won't let Id go out of control like before. After "Old Man Bahl", another sage, repairs Fei's Weltall, it becomes "Weltall-2". This is the third strongest Gear in the game, second if it's in System Id, since it's essentially Id in this state. The player is able to use System Id until Fei encounters The Wave Existence. After a final confrontation against Grahf and coming into contact with Zohar, Weltall-2 becomes Xenogears. Fei is a balanced fighter in Xenogears, although his ETH-DEF and ATP are low, and his gear is Weltall, which is destined to become the Xenogears. Fei has powerful combos in the game, as well, and decent ATP-up and DFP-up "Chi" spells, along with a few offensive ones, though they are practically useless towards the end.

Fei is a complex character with many issues, which he is able to resolve as his journey continues. One such issue is the being known to him as Id, that resides in him. Fei wants nothing to do with Id, but he still feels responsible whenever Id becomes loose. He later learns from Id himself how he came to be. Once Fei learns to accept things and become one with all of himself, he becomes a powerful warrior with immeasurable combat skill and ability. His love for Elly was small at first, as he sometimes asks why he seemed to know certain things about the Solarian woman he met during his self-imposed exile after destroying Lahan. But after many times in their journey, their combined affection grew until they were able to return to Ignas after finally destroying the Urobolus Gene creature and restoring the gene pool of Ignas' human population to balance, along with their time together in the Yggdrasil. This love aided them in many of their trails, and no doubt in the end of Xenogears, they will endure no matter what dangers await them. Nothing can separate them, as the case of their previous incarnations, Fei's love for Elly, and her love for him has existed for ten thousand years (10,000 years) and will continue until the end of the world.

Elly
<!-- Commented out because image was deleted: -->

Elhaym Van Houten, nicknamed Elly, is the young, skilled officer of the Solaris Military who is also the -Antitype- in this incarnation of Fei's life, just as she has been throughout the centuries on the planet (the Great Mother Sophia, Kim's wife Elly, etc.). She was created by the Wave Existence out of Abel's need for a mother. Elly was leading an operation to steal a top-secret experiment gear from the rival country Kislev, but was forced to crash-land in Lahan. Her encounter with Fei changes her life forever. Elly is an optimist, and wants to help Fei, despite the fact that he is a -Lamb-, and she cannot leave the military. She is a competent fighter with her rods, but she has powerful elemental ether, which makes her valuable to the party.

Elly has one issue that remains with her, despite her being a Solarian and the daughter of one of the Empire's most decorated officers, there is the fact of her appearance, being red-haired and blue-violet eyed somewhat separates her from other Solarians who are mostly blond and blue-eyed. For a time she thought her mother was not the woman her father married, and had actually been her childhood nanny who was a Lamb. This fact of her life was a mark of ridicule by some people of Solaris, including Elly's former comrade in the Elements, Dominia. It's only toward the midpoint of the game, that Elly learns that this was how she looked ever since the dawn of life on their planet. Her love for Fei was once something she didn't understand until she realized that they were truly meant to be together, as they had been in their previous lives for the past ten thousand years (10,000 years). They consummated this love on the Yggdrasil and they cherished it when they returned to Ignas to be with their friends. Elly's love for others and for Fei helped her move through the deaths of both her mother and father, and helped her fight for her freedom when she was possessed by Miang in the Merkava. Only time can tell where her love for Fei will take her, but regardless, they will be together, even to the end of the world.

Citan
Citan Uzuki is a doctor who lives up the mountain path from Lahan village with his wife, Yui, and his daughter, Midori. He is a Third-class Solarian born in Etrenank, and his real name is Hyuga Ricdeau. While in Solaris, he had a troublesome life, until he went to the Jugend Military Academy thanks to his high intelligence and met Sigurd and Jessiah there. He then became a member of Jessiah's group (The Elements), along with Sigurd and Kahran Ramsus. After Sigurd and Jessie left Solaris, and Ramsus was promoted into a high Gebler Officer, he was appointed as a Solarian Guardian Angel, working to Emperor Cain and the Gazel directly. Later in an assault mission to Shevat which he led, he fought with Yui; however the two fell in love and there was some possibility that Hyuga ordered the retreat from Shevat partially because he had fallen for Yui. Since then, Citan promised Yui's grandfather, Wiseman Gaspar, to never use a sword to kill again. They then got married and had Midori. Citan later received instructions from Cain to watch over Fei (The Contact) to see if he would bring relief or destruction, which is when he assumed the name Citan and moved with his family to Lahan. He reports to Emperor Cain a few times over the course of the game. However, on the outside, he appears to be Fei's guardian and not a Solaris spy. His allegiance toward Solaris will shift completely during the course of the story. As a character, he loves tinkering with machinery and thinking through complex problems, such as the invasion of Merkava (the physical structure of Deus), he has a strong morality, and would never break a promise; however when the situation got really bad, he uses his sword again, with the approval of Yui; even if he promised to never wield a sword again, he argues "This is no time for moralities".

Game-wise, Citan's first gear is Heimdal. Later on, he returns to his Omnigear named Fenrir, which is aligned with the Anima Relic "Asher" and equipped with a large sword. It was kept in Gaspar's care 'in case of emergencies'. On foot, Citan is the best fighter in the game, first displaying an extremely quick hand to hand combat style and later on, upon regaining his sword, a sword style similar to that of Iaido (it is arguable that once he reclaims his sword, Citan is in fact better on foot than in Gear, given his incredible speed and power). He has the highest HP in the game and the most powerful combos. He also has a large library of support Ether (his particular Ether talent is called Arcane), appropriate to his doctor role. He joins Fei early on in the game and stays with him until the end.

===Bart===<!-- This section is linked from Bartholomew Roberts -->

Bartholomew Fatima, nicknamed Bart, is leader of a group of sand pirates who ravage the desert in their sand cruiser, the Yggdrasil. He is a rambunctious, hot headed, ill-tempered youth whom no one can entirely control. Beneath the surface, he is actually the Crown Prince of The Fatima Dynasty. He receives much support from his men, but he tends to shoot anything that moves and can cause grief for his comrades. He is not particularly fast but some of his weapons can cause status ailments. He is a strong and useful player with many self-powering Ether abilities.

Bart's eye patch isn't for show; he lost his eye when trying to aid in the repairs to the Yggdrasil long before meeting Fei and Citan. Sigurd, his fellow comrade and retainer, saved him from greater harm, but also lost his other eye in the process. Despite his brash attitude, Bart is a kind-hearted guy who has deep leadership talents, and keeps his focus on maintaining honor and dignity.

Bart is the crown prince of Aveh and a fugitive from his own country. When he was still very young, his father, King Edbart IV was overthrown by Shakhan, the puppet dictator of Aveh. Maison and Sigurd smuggled the young prince out of the kingdom and became his loyal guardians. Rumors of Bart's death were perpetuated and the young prince became a pirate, raiding the Aveh forces for supplies whenever he was able. Despite what Shakhan told the people of Aveh, Bart went out of his way to avoid harming people and only stole what he needed to begin planning his eventual recapturing of the throne.

After defeating Shakhan and reclaimed Aveh, Bart made a public announcement that he will honor his father's last request: by reforming the government into a republic. He also ceased the long war between Aveh and Kislev.

Rico
<!-- Commented out because image was deleted: -->

Ricardo Banderas, nicknamed Rico, is the massive demi-human and champion of gear battling. Rico is the massive champion of the Battling area in Norturne, the Imperial capital of Kislev. He has a sturdy reputation, and his size can be frightening. Despite being a prisoner, his lifestyle is superior to that of many nobles. Rico is one of the strongest characters, but one of the slowest. His attacks deal a lot of damage compared to any other character with citan Uzuki as an exception, which alone makes up for his speed.

Rico is actually the son of Kaiser Sigmund of Kislev, which is ironic as the man has an absolute discrimination towards demi-humans. This can be hinted by the fact that Rico was able to enter the Kaiser's bedroom, which was protected by a DNA-coded lock that allowed only Sigmund and his wife to enter. Rico's mother died while he was a child, and though being sick and hated by others for having Rico as a son, she did her best to help him survive. After his mother's death, Rico became a criminal to survive and found his way into the Prison D-Block. His power and skill however made him Battler material, and he became the reigning champion of Kislev for many years, until he was defeated by Fei and Weltall. His one desire, despite his apparent disinterest, is to avenge his mother and himself.

Billy
Billy Lee Black is introduced as a young, pacific priest of the Ethos Religion, and later is revealed as a member of the Etone branch, which job is to "clean" and "purge" the world from the Reapers, or -Wels-. He has a problematic relationship with his father Jessiah (Jessie), who used to be a member of the Elements, an elite unit within the Solaris military. Jessie later abandoned his post and left Solaris with his family, settling on a small island in the Aquvy area. Billy had a happy childhood, and learned how to use a gun from Jessie. Later his father abandoned him (leaving to work as a spy for Shevat, although Billy was unaware of this), and a few years later his mother Racquel was killed by -Wels-. While that happened, he and his little sister, Primera, were hiding in the shadows witnessing all, and feeling powerless. Since then, Primera remained silent and Billy swore to protect her. Later, he and Primera were saved by Bishop Stone, who convinced Billy to join the Ethos. After that incident, he built an orphanage to protect children that have been left alone like him and his sister, instead of leaving them to the Ethos. The children like to play hide-and-seek with Billy and also are a great support for Billy's missions, because they can send the Renmazuo gear immediately at Billy's signal.

When Jessie returned, he was too different from what he used to be, and became a cocky and irreverent drunk; because of that, Billy lived ashamed of his father, and even hated to be compared with him. After he learns the truth about his father's actions, his mentor Stone (Stein) and the Ethos religion, his policies change. He regains the confidence in his father and respects him again; he even treats Jessie as a hero after his presumed death, when Jessie allowed Billy the use of the JessieCannon, a technique that transforms Jessie's gear in a weapon that fires the pilot's cockpit as its bullet. His fighting style is the marksmanship learned from Jessie, and also widely used among the Etones ("to impart justice in the name of God and the Ethos"), and another strong point of Billy is the wide selection of curative spells he has. He doesn't have Ether attacks, unlike Fei or Bart; however, his Ether guns (Square button attack) can be regarded as offensive Ethers as they deal elemental Ether damage. He wields two revolvers (Handgun); two short rifles of unlimited ammo, each one hidden in a sleeve of his trenchcoat (Ether-gun), and a powerful shotgun that he pulls from his back (Big gun). The Renmazuo also has two handguns and a Gatling gun in its wrists.

Chu-Chu
Once mistaken by Bart as a stuffed animal, Chu-Chu was with Marguerite during the teenage girl's imprisonment in Fatima Castle. Her race once lived in the woods, but due to Solaris's activities, they became almost extinct. Some managed to escape to Shevat and live with Wiseman. Chu-Chu can grow to the size of a gear once the physical part of the limiter is removed. She can heal other gears, and doesn't need any fuel to fight. She has romantic interest for Fei but no one really notices and it spooked Fei at first.

Maria
<!-- Deleted image removed: -->

Maria Balthasar is a young girl from Shevat, she is the daughter of Gear designer Nikolai Balthasar and the granddaughter of "Old Man" Isaac Balthasar. When she was a little girl she was captured by Solaris along with her mother and father and held hostage as incentive for Nikolai to construct a next-generation series of Wel-Gear hybrids. When the first model, Seibzehn was created he secretly programmed it to escape from Solaris and take Maria with it back to Shevat. Ever since Maria and Seibzehn have been standing guard in Shevat and defending the aerial nation from anyone who would try an attack or approach it.

In battle Maria herself is quite a pitiful character, she can remotely call in Seibzehn and perform some powerful special attacks but she is otherwise useless on foot. In a Gear however the story changes dramatically. Seibzehn is a powerful gear in combat. Its attack and special abillities rival that of the Xenogears and it is almost a must when facing tough opponents like Ramsus and Miang. Maria was meant to have an Omnigear known as El Seibzehn, but due to time and money constraints it was cut out of the game. However, a concept sketch of the Omnigear does exist in the Perfect Works, the companion piece to Xenogears.

Emeralda
Emeralda Kasim is a nanomachine colony built to aid the human race. Kim Kasim (Fei’s second known incarnation) created Emeralda during the Zeboim era by analyzing Elly’s gene pattern, and creating a nanomachine colony. At the time, Miang was manipulating the government, and wanted to reset the human evolutionary cycle by starting a worldwide nuclear war. She also commissioned Kim to advance his work on nanomachines in order to artificially enhance human evolution. Knowing this, Kim removed Emeralda from the main research facility. When Miang found out, she dispatched a special military force to seize Emerelda’s tank. The nanomachines of which Emeralda was composed, stopped, dismantled, and engaged in a pseudo perpetual state. She is a strong character physically, but her child-like knowledge of the world gives her a strong dependence upon Fei, who she recognizes as Kim. With her elemental ether abilities and ability to alter her body's shape, she is readily equipped with devastating attacks, and when an adult, she is comparable to Citan. In her adult form, Emeralda's stat gains far exceed those of any other character, with all of her stats increasing upon level-up instead of only some.

Like Seibzehn, Emeralda's Gear, Crescens, was originally scheduled to align with an Anima and become an Omnigear, El-Crescens. However, this aspect was removed during the final phases of development.

Although her vocabulary is limited, she is able to comprehend most things. At the end of disc 2 she is seen in her adult form suggesting that showing up for the lighthouse side quest is canonical with the story.

Main antagonists
Krelian
Krelian is the main antagonist of the game. His first mention is by a member of the Gazel Ministry, who says that Krelian is going to Aquvy in order to intercept a ship (the Thames) that has discovered the ruins of Zeboim. Within Zeboim lies Emeralda, the quintessential nanomachine creation. The Gazel Ministry, however, considers Krelian's search for Emeralda "exorbitant." Soon afterward, Krelian makes his first appearance in the game, aboard the Solaris ship Ezekiel. Krelian orders his test subjects, the Wels, to attack the Thames. Krelian is later seen reporting to the Gazel Ministry that he has obtained Emeralda; Krelian also reminds them that he revived them and will not take orders from them. In a later meeting with the Gazel, Krelian announces that he has gathered all the data that he needs from Emeralda, and so he does not care what happens to it.

Krelian is next seen using one of his clones of Emperor Cain, whom Krelian has kept alive via nanotechnology, in order to speak to the people of Solaris. At this point, Elly reveals a key plot point to Fei: Krelian is the real leader of Solaris. Fei suddenly blacks out and remembers his previous incarnation, Lacan, speaking with Krelian in Nisan 500 years ago. Krelian begins mentioning something about saving people's lives, especially Sophia's, but at that point Fei awakens. Fei and Elly enter Krelian's laboratory in an effort to rescue the rest of their party, but Krelian captures them as well. Krelian discovers that Elly has the 'Urobolus Ring' and is the 'Mother.' He also calls Elly "beautiful" and says that she has not changed "since then." After Krelian exits, however, Citan helps the party, including Elly, escape.

Back on the Ezekiel, Krelian again speaks with the Gazel Ministry. He says that he has sent Ramsus to handle Fei. When a Minister questions Krelian about his amicable past with Fei (Lacan), Krelian responds, "I've thrown away all feelings of human emotion. All I need is her." Krelian then contacts Ramsus and tells him to retrieve Elly, but Ramsus ignores these orders, since he is only concerned with defeating Fei.

Krelian first appears on the second disc in another discussion with the Gazel Ministry. Here he reinforces the importance of Elly to him, but also says that since he can get her any time, it does not have to be now. After the Ministry harasses Ramsus by calling him "worthless," Krelian initiates his plan. He tells Ramsus—Krelian's creation who is able to kill Cain—that Cain's existence divides Ramsus' power. Ramsus, desperate for more power in order to defeat Fei, complies with Krelian's orders. In a key statement, Krelian tells Cain, "I try to lead the people 'in my own way.'" Ramsus then successfully assassinates Cain.

After Cain's death, the Gazel Ministry uses the Gaetia Key in order to make Mahanon rise from under the sea. In Mahanon, Fei and his party discover Razael's Tree, but Krelian appears and takes it, along with Deus. With Grahf's help, Krelian captures the party; Krelian needs them as bait in order to lure Elly to him. Krelian takes the party to Golgoda and crucifies them. Krelian offers to let the rest of the party live if Elly can defeat two Gears. She does so, and Krelian keeps his promise. Krelian then returns to the Ezekiel after announcing that he is going to take Elly with him. On the Ezekiel, Krelian meets once more with the Gazel Ministry. At this point, Krelian betrays them, claiming that since they have activated the Gaetia Key, he no longer needs them. While he is erasing them, he strongly rejects their claim that they could have become god; Krelian says that humans can only entrust themselves to god.

Krelian then constructs the Ark of Merkava by using his knowledge of nanotechnology and Razael's Tree. Krelian takes Deus and Elly with him to Merkava. While Fei and the party attempt to rescue Elly in Merkava, they meet up with Ramsus. At this point, a flashback shows that Krelian created Ramsus as an artificial contact, but discarded him after learning from Miang that the true contact, Fei, was born.

After defeating Ramsus again, Fei and his party reach Krelian and Miang. Krelian says that they helped him assemble all of the parts of god, and proclaims that it is time for the resurrection of god. Ramsus then appears, questioning his purpose in life, and lashes out at Miang and Krelian. Ramsus seemingly kills Krelian, but since Krelian's body is mostly composed of nanomachines that essentially make him immortal, he quickly revives. Miang also survives, merely taking over Elly's body after her first body is killed. Krelian enters Deus with Miang, who now possesses the body of Elly.

Fei's party goes to Shevat and talks to Zephyr, who reveals some of Krelian's past. 500 years earlier, in Nisan, a rebel army that contained Krelian, Lacan, and Sophia (Elly's previous incarnation) were nearly destroyed by Solaris. Sophia, however, sacrificed herself so that the army could escape. After that, Krelian met up with Miang, who also sought to resurrect god (Deus). The two started working together as partners, both aiming to resurrect Deus and doom humanity. It is around this point that Krelian attempts to clone Emperor Cain to create a new -Contact-, Ramsus. However, Miang possessed Karen, Fei's mother, and alerted Krelian of the new Contact's existence, so Krelian and Miang trashed Ramsus.

Eventually Fei's party manages to destroy Merkava, but Deus' completed form emerges from it. After a long battle, Fei's party defeats Deus. From there, the Wave Existence, the real 'god' of the Xenogears universe, escapes from Deus. Krelian then explains his ultimate goal to Fei. Because humans live in an imperfect state that is filled with sadness, Krelian wants to revert everything to the perfect, unified state of waves. Krelian says that this place is filled with the love of god instead of the false love that humans experience. After that, he summons Urobolus, the final incarnation of Miang, to fight Fei.

After Fei defeats Urobolus, however, Krelian releases Elly. Elly tells Fei that Krelian was deeply saddened by Sophia's death and actually loved people greatly, and so he tried to make it so that no one would experience loss again. Krelian then saves Fei and Elly, and chooses to "walk with god" (i.e. follow the Wave Existence back to its dimension via the Path of Sephirot). While he departs, two angelic wings bloom on his shoulders. His last line is, "Actually, I envy you two."

Notes
During the game, Krelian appears with blonde-colored hair. In the Nisan flashback scenes, however, he has midnight blue-colored hair. The hair color change is never explained in the game, nor in Perfect Works, leading players to wonder whether or not it is a continuity error. A mainstream theory is that the nanomachines that keep Krelian alive caused his hair to change color. However, other characters who are kept alive by nanomachines (e.g. Queen Zephyr, Taura Melchior, Isaac Balthasar, Gaspar Uzuki) do not appear to have undergone a similar change. Thus, an alternative theory is that Krelian merely chose to change his hair color at some point—perhaps after Sophia's death or when he joined Solaris. Yet another possibility is that Krelian changed his hair color to better fit with the denizens of Solaris, whose majority is blonde-haired. Interestingly, there is another video game character whose hair changes from blue to blonde over a long period of time: Schala of Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross, games which happen to share many development team members with Xenogears.

The name Krelian is a mistransliteration of his name in the original Japanese version of Xenogears: カレルレン or Karellen. This name is a reference to a character in Arthur C. Clarke's novel, Childhood's End. In their respective stories, both characters take it upon themselves to serve as a guiding force for all of humanity, with the intention of helping it to evolve to a higher form. The ultimate goals and final plans of Krelian bear a striking resemblance to the theological idea of Apocatastasis.

Miang
Miang is the main female antagonist of Xenogears. According to the Perfect Works guidebook, her last name is Hawwa. In the original Japanese version, her name was Myyah. Hawwa, in Arabic (حواء), means Eve; Humankind's first woman. Myyah is almost the reverse of Elly's full name (Elhaym), with the omitted 'El' being Hebrew and meaning 'God', symbolizing how she is connected to but different from that character.

Appearing repeatedly throughout the game's events in opposition to the party, both behind the scenes and in direct confrontations, Miang acts as a human incarnation of Deus, an intergalactic bioweapon designed to conduct warfare on a planetary scale. The final moments of the Eldridge catastrophe resulted in the creation of the original 'mother' being, tasked by the Deus system to give birth to an entire civilization that would provide and gather all the biological and mechanical "spare parts" it needed to repair and reactivate. One of the many humans that the first being gave birth to was Miang's first incarnation, known as the -Complement-. The Complement's purpose is to guide and shape the events of human history to better suit the coming resurrection of Deus. All human women descended from the crash of the Eldridge (i.e., all inhabiting the planet the game takes place on) possess the genetic factor necessary to become the next incarnation of Miang - when the current one dies, Miang simply awakens in a new body. The target seems to be randomly selected, but she always inhabits the body of an adult female, and the momentary transformation always results in purple hair and eye color. The only notable superhuman abilities she possesses are the ability to retain memory across incarnations and some considerable psionic abilities (strong enough to cleanly "reprogram" someone's subconscious to perform a chosen task, akin to brainwashing), though for the most part she prefers working in the shadows to manipulate world events. This is evidenced by her sparse participation in battles in a mostly supportive role, usually piloting her C-1 Vierge.

Unable to locate the current incarnation of the -Contact-, Miang cooperates with Krelian to clone an artificial -Contact- using Emperor Cain's DNA. The clone, which would later become Kahran Ramsus, gains awareness before even being born and develops an inferiority complex soon thereafter. Miang dies of old age, and awakens in Karen Wong, Fei's mother, in a stroke of uncommon luck, and uses her new position to conduct battery after battery of torturous experiments on Fei while his father is away, resulting in the inadvertent creation of Id. Miang stands by passively while Grahf attacks Khan Wong, triggering a spontaneous release of Fei's power. Karen regains control momentarily, long enough to throw herself in front of her son to save his life, and is mortally wounded in the process. Fei recedes into the "coward" personality, shielding himself by displacing the tragedy and horror of these events onto his alter-ego, Id, who remains the dominant personality for the rest of his teenage years under Grahf's destructive tutelage. Miang reawakens in a new host body, apparently in her early twenties, and begins to court Kahran Ramsus in order to gain power within the Gebler faction on Solaris.

Miang is cut down by Ramsus in front of the newly-activated Deus. The party witnesses her reawakening in Elly, who explains humanity's purpose relative to Deus shortly before being absorbed into its core. Deus utilizes its newly acquired Anima Relics and Krelian's nanotechnology to ascend to a higher, more advanced form than its original design was capable of, and climbs into orbit in an attempt to resume its journey. Fei gives pursuit in the Xenogears, the only Gear left operational after the destruction of the Zohar Modifier, and battles with Miang in her final incarnation, that of the Urobolus. After Fei had successfully defeated her in this form, she had then ceased to exist. Once Miang is eradicated for good, Krelian is convinced of Fei's point of view and resigns from his original mission, opting instead to walk the Path of Sephirot and travel to the higher dimension from which the Wave Existence originated, leaving Fei and Elly to return to the planet in the Xenogears. The chains of fate are broken, and Fei and Elly become the final incarnations of their eternally returning personas, with the memories and experiences of all their past selves incorporated into them.

Ramsus
Kahran Ramsus (also known as 0808191 Ramses, Kahr, or Ramsus) first appears in the game when his Gebler aerial battleship docks at Bledavik. Shakhan compliments Ramsus' victory over Kislev units. Ramsus ignores him and berates Vanderkaum. Ramsus, Miang, and Shakhan then go to Fatima Castle. Ramsus asks Shakhan about the Fatima Jasper. Shakhan replies that the kidnapped Margie has not revealed its location. Ramsus takes Miang with him to question Margie. Ramsus politely asks her about the Fatima Jasper, but Margie does not give him any useful information.

As the Bledavik Tournament begins, Ramsus and Miang encounter Shakhan again. Ramsus says that he does not have time "for such gay revelry," calls it "boring," and leaves without Miang, who decides to watch the tournament. As Bart attempts to rescue Margie, he is intercepted by Ramsus and Miang. The four fight until Fei appears. Fei's name and technique vaguely remind Ramsus of someone from his past. Fei, Bart, and Margie run into an elevator and escape. Ramsus intends to pursue them in his Gear, but changes his plans after receiving a message from Hyuga (Citan). In bed, Ramsus dreams about a red-haired man who destroys Ramsus' army. He is terrified when he awakens, but he tells Miang that it was nothing, and leaves the room.

Soon afterward, Ramsus ambushes the Yggdrasil. Knowing that his "old friend" from Solaris, Sigurd, is aboard, Ramsus ceases fire and orders their surrender. When they refuse to surrender, Ramsus reluctantly resumes the attack. At this point, however, a powerful red Gear appears. Ramsus identifies it as the 'Demon of Elru' and immediately goes to his Gear, Wyvern, in order to challenge it. The red Gear easily demolishes Ramsus' Gear, causing Miang to rescue Ramsus and retreat. Later, Grahf appears and informs Ramsus that Fei is on the Goliath airship. Ramsus ignores his obligation to excavate the Anima Relics and angrily orders an attack. Aside, Miang says to Grahf, "He's the very meaning of Kahr's existence."

After Bart accidentally shoots down the Goliath, Fei is saved by the Thames. Miang informs Ramsus, and he changes course. When they arrive, Ramsus and Miang encounter Fei underwater. Ramsus calls Fei his "archrival" and asks, "What happened to your other Gear!?" Ramsus severely injures Fei and nearly drowns him, but Elly attacks Ramsus' Gear with Aerods, forcing Ramsus and Miang to retreat.

After Fei recovers and goes to Babel Tower, Ramsus and Miang attack in their Gears again. After Ramsus is wounded, Shevat appears and attacks Ramsus' ship, forcing another retreat. Ramsus reports to the Ezekiel, where the Gazel Ministry degrades him. They point out his various failures and call him "trash." Despite his wounds, Ramsus is determined to prove his worth to the Ministry and defeat Fei.

When Elly is taken to Krelian's lab, Ramsus shows up and demands to know where Fei is. After raving about Fei, Ramsus takes a mental stabilizer and leaves without getting an answer from Elly. Ramsus then encounters Citan. Disappointed, Ramsus says that Citan betrayed him. When Citan says that he chose to side with Fei, Ramsus becomes enraged, and says that anyone who sides with Fei is his enemy.

After Ramsus again fails to defeat Fei, Krelian aligns Ramsus' Gear with an Anima Relic and sends him after Fei. While Ramsus is in his Gear, Krelian contacts him and tells him that he wants Elly. Ramsus finds Fei and demands Elly. After realizing that his new Gear is more powerful then Fei's, however, Ramsus ignores his orders to get Elly, even when Fei and Elly surrender. Instead, Ramsus continues to assault Fei. Fei's Gear crashes in the forest, and Ramsus leaves satisfied.

When Fei leaves the woods, he encounters Ramsus again. Since Melchior and Balthasar upgraded Fei's Gear to be able to use System Id, Fei wins the battle. Ramsus says, "If only you didn't exist..." Ramsus then launches an assault on Nisan in order to find Fei again. Ramsus finds Elly instead, and threatens to kill her in an attempt to draw out Fei. Elly, however, manages to freeze Ramsus. She then asks why he is so fixated on Fei. Ramsus then laments his ineffectiveness in front of The Gazel Ministry, Krelian, and Miang. Krelian and Miang convince him that he needs to kill Cain in order to obtain all of the divided power. Ramsus proceeds to chop off Cain's head with his sword. Ramsus is unaware that he was manipulated by Krelian. Ramsus, a clone of Cain, was the only one who could assassinate Cain.

In Merkava, Ramsus challenges Fei once again. This time, he explains his past to Fei. He says that he was created in Krelian's lab in order to be a superior being and artificial contact. Karen, however, informed Krelian that her son, Fei, would be a true contact. Karen was possessed by Miang when this occurs. Thus, Krelian considered Ramsus worthless, and trashed him. In the ensuing battle, Fei defeats Ramsus again. Fei's party encounters Krelian and Miang at Deus, but Ramsus catches up to them. Miang tells Ramsus that his only purpose was to kill Cain. He angrily slashes Miang and Krelian with his sword, seemingly killing both of them. Krelian, however, quickly regenerates via his nanomachines, and Miang takes over Elly's body. Finally, Fei's party brings Ramsus back to the Yggdrasil. Citan and the Elements convince him that his life has meaning. His role in the story then ends. It is uncertain what his fate is afterwards.
