Rhytida australis is a species of small, air-breathing land snail, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the family Rhytididae.

Distribution

This species is endemic to Stewart Island in New Zealand.

Habitat

This snail is found in the northern part of Stewart Island, living in forest litter and under the bark of rimu trees.

Shell description

The shell is rather small, depressed, resembling Rhytida meesoni meesoni but with deeper whorls. The surface is deeply malleated but becoming smooth in and around the umbilicus. The shell coloration is yellowish-brown; the umbilicus is reddish-brown.

The shell diameter is up to 13 mm, and height up to 8 mm.
