See text.

Carditidae is a family of marine bivalve clams of the order Veneroida.

The shells look very like venerids, but differ in several respects; the linge-teeth consist of several massive cardinals, but the laterals are either subobsolete or absent, there are no siphons, and the pallial line is simple, without a sinus. They are found in most seas.
