David Kernell (born 1988) is the son of Mike Kernell a member of the Tennessee House of Representatives. Kernell is an economics student at the University of Tennessee. [1]

Kernell became the focus of media attention after someone posted a detailed account of the Sarah Palin email hack on a board named 4chan using the email address rubico10@yahoo.com, which according to press reports and the allegations of a grand jury indictment belonged to Kernell. [2] [3] [4] In September 2008, the FBI searched the apartment of David Kernell, in connection with the hacking of Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin's Yahoo! Mail account.[5] Kernell hired Tennessee attorney Wade V. Davies who defended him during a September session of the grand jury which did not indict Kernell. Davies stated "We are confident that the truth will emerge as we go through the process. David is a decent and intelligent young man, and I look forward to assisting him during this difficult period." [6] On In October 2008, Kernell was indicted by a Tennessee grand jury in connection with the hack.[7] According to his lawyer "As soon as we found out about the charges this morning, David voluntarily turned himself in,".[8] At court Kernell denying the charge pleaded not guilty to accessing Sarah Palin's Yahoo account. [9] Kernell was released without bail. [10]
