JLO by Jennifer Lopez is a lifestyle brand that incorporates every aspect of JLO's life. The line includes many different types of clothing for young and older women, including Swimwear, Fragrances, Eyewear, Jewelry, Hats, Gloves, and Scarves, Outerwear, Handbags, Lingerie, Watches and Footwear. Besides Jlo By Jennifer Lopez, Sweetface and JustSweet are also other clothing lines owned by entrepreneur Jennifer Lopez and it is licensed by the Warnaco Group. The company partnered with Tommy Hilfiger's brother Andy Hilfiger's firm in November, 2003.

Company History

About the line

In 2001, Jennifer Lopez launched her personal fashion line. The same year that JLO was launched, the artist teamed up with Andy Hilfiger, brother of the American fashion icon Tommy Hilfiger, to establish Sweetface Fashion Company. Under this umbrella corporation, She has since expanded her sportswear line to create a complete lifestyle brand. Sweetface now incorporates products in eleven different categories, including: girls, swim-wear, fragrances, eye-wear, hats, gloves, scarves, jewelry, outer-wear, handbags, lingerie, watches, and foot-wear.

By July 2002, all of these products by Jennifer Lopez could be found in Canada and Central America; Sweetface began a process of international distribution. Two years later, the company joined forces with Crocus International in opening the first JLO boutique in Moscow and in Greece. The brand’s popularity continued to grow after its showcase at Olympus Fashion Week in New York City. The response following the event was so positive that Lopez decided to launch a new women’s contemporary brand, also called Sweetface.

According to GrowThink, Jennifer Lopez is the #7 most successful musician-entrepreneur.[1] “Jennifer continues to set new standards in women’s fashion and lifestyles,” says Hilfiger. “We are committed to the expansion and growth of the JLO brand under the Sweetface umbrella and will continue to take the brand to new levels of success. Sweetface will continue to expand the brand as a fashion authority with virtually limitless opportunities.”[2]

In 2007, it was announced that JLO will be rebranded as the fashion line "JustSweet".[3], which will also see the introduction of a wide new range of clothing and fragrances. However, J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez will continue to be sold in countries other than the US. According to the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez website, the clothing line will be relaunching in the U.S. in Fall 2008.

The Designer

Jennifer Lopez says she always tries to bring her own sense of style into every aspect of her life.[citation needed] Thanks to her media omnipresence, Lopez has been able to grow her lifestyle brand much faster than the average new company.[citation needed] In 2008, Jennifer Lopez was a Grammy-Honored Fashion Designer.

The Lines

Clothing

The line includes many different types of clothing for young and older women, including Swimwear, Fragrances, Eyewear, Jewelry, Hats, Gloves, and Scarves, Outerwear, Handbags, Lingerie, Watches and Footwear.

Fragrance

Jennifer Lopez released Glow by Jennifer Lopez, her first fragrance, in 2002, making her something of an old hand in the current celebrity fragrance boom. The fragrance was meant to target women in their late teens and early 20s, who presumably make up a large part of her fan base. Glow was a tremendous success by being the number-one perfume in more than nine countries in less than four months and ringing up over $100 million in sales in its first year. No doubt it helped to attract other celebrities into the fragrance market, and J Lo herself has not been idle — she has just launched her ninth fragrance, Deseo by Jennifer Lopez. In late 2008 she is expected to release Deseo for men by Jennifer Lopez.

Rebranding

In 2007, it was announced that she will drop the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez tag and begin selling a new line in the United States, "JustSweet".[3] J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez will continue to be sold in countries other than the US. According to the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez website, the clothing line will be relaunching in the U.S. in Fall 2008.

Controversy

Lopez's frequent use of fur in her clothing lines and personal wardrobe has brought the scorn of people concerned with animal rights. At the Los Angeles premiere of Monster-in-Law, more than one hundred protestors from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals ("PETA") held a demonstration to highlight their concerns. Lopez told a radio D.J. she was open to being educated on the topic.
