Classic science fiction novel by Jules Verne, published in 1870 under the title Vingt mille lieues sous les mers. Many English translations of the novel have been entitled '20,000 leagues under the sea', but this is an inaccurate translation. Twenty thousand leagues is around seventy thousand miles, and this distance is a measure of length, not depth.

The plot follows the adventures of the protagonists in a submarine built and commanded by the mysterious Captain Nemo.
