Distribution
This spider is endemic to the northern part of the North Island of New Zealand.
Habitat
The banded tunnelweb spider builds silk-lined tunnels under logs or rocks. It lies in wait at the mouth of the lair at night, waiting to snatch any passing insect. Only the male, when in search of a mate, is found away from its lair.
Description
This spider is one of New Zealand's largest with a body length of up to 20 mm. The abdomen is dark brown with a yellowish chevron pattern, and the carapace is orange-brown with six prominent spinnerets.
