The help desk of a library is a resource where helpful librarians offer help library users who are using the library. Library users can consult the help desk in finding a book or journal, using the library's online card catalogs and other electronic resources, and even--perhaps most essentially--with specific, factual questions. Typically, a help desk can be consulted either in person or by telephone. A staffed and knowledgeable help desk is frequently regarded as an essential part of a library.

When asked a specific, factual question, sometimes (depending on the service offered), a librarian will simply supply an answer and a source. Often, the librarian will point the library user to a particular part of the library where the answer may be found.

The above was not written by a librarian. Librarians/library users, please help flesh this article out...
