I'm not sure that the last two paragraphs should go here. Perhaps on [[cognition]] or [[philosophy of mind]], or better yet, on a page about [[autopoesis]]. I'm really not sure, because I don't know anything about this; this is the first I've heard of Maturana and Varela, probably because they aren't (weren't) philosophers but scientists, and the theory is not well known by philosophers generally. --[[LMS]]
