"Enjoy the Silence"
Song

"Enjoy the Silence" is Depeche Mode's twenty-fourth UK single, released on February 5, 1990, and the second single for the then upcoming album Violator.

"Enjoy the Silence" is easily one Depeche Mode's successful singles, especially on the charts. It's accessible music and lyrics have made this one of the songs people think about when they think Depeche Mode.

"Enjoy the Silence" was originally going to be a ballad, the original demo only having an organ with Martin Gore singing the lyrics to the song. The demo would be remade into the "Harmonium" version which is still sung by Martin. There are many remixes of the song, the main one being the "Hands and Feet Mix." One of the rarer mixes is "The Quad: Final Mix" which is a 15.5 minute track.

There are two b-sides to "Enjoy the Silence." Both piano instrumentals in the vein of "Pimpf" and "Stjarna". "Sibeling" is a more softer piano-tune while "Memphisto" is a darker, more powerful track.

The Anton Corbijn directed music video for "Enjoy the Silence" is one of the most well-known DM videos and a particular fan-favorite. The main part of the video has lead singer David Gahan in a king outfit while roaming around valleys and mountains looking for a place to relax and "enjoy the silence". The video also uses a different mix of the song that isn't released in any format, similar to the original song but has a different intro.
