Nine Mile Creek, a scenic stream noted for trout fishing, extends about twenty-five miles from Otisco Lake in the Town of Otisco, New York. Recently New York State has been stocking the creek with Atlantic salmon as well as trout. The stream runs northward through the villages of Marcellus, New York and Camillus, New York in the Town of Camillus, New York. The creek discharges into Onondaga Lake. The Solvay Process Company since the late nineteenth century until the late twentieth century deposited industrial waste near the creek and lake. Recent reclamation has significantly restored quality in the final stretch of the creek. Farther to the south, the State of New York maintains fishing access sites.

Although considered a non-navigable body of water, the upper (southern) section of the creek, from the dam at Otisco to main street in Marcellus, was charted for the first time on April 18, 2008 by three local explorers. The roughly ten-mile section of the creek took about 10 hours to navigate due to frequent capsizing and downed trees blocking the creek. However, it was later proven that these "explorers" had committed fraud and faked the majority of their journey in order to maintain a public spotlight.
