The PAST Foundation, Partnering Archaeology with Science and Technology, is a small federal 501(c)(3) non-profit educational and research team in the United States. The PAST Foundation’s mission is to partner on compelling projects in Anthropology and make them available to students and the public through field schools, documentary film, and interactive web access.

History

The PAST Foundation was founded in 2000 as a part-time, non-profit organization of anthropologists and scientists who attempted to bring anthropology to the public. Immediately, PAST began building partnerships and programs for seamless education to bring the enjoyment and fascination back to scientific inquiry.

Transition

Through this transition, PAST decided to rethink their partnerships, making them more crucial in PAST’s mission. In the beginning, research was more scientific. However, through this transition, PAST has become more of a partnership between themselves and scientists in enhancing education, in which partners are invited by PAST as an invitation of discourse.

Growth

Currently, PAST is continuing to grow in their partnerships and hopes to continue bringing anthropology to students and the public through educational programs and the media.

Awards

Since its establishment in 2000, recognition of PAST’s achievements have steadily grown. PAST was honored the National Park Service Cotter Award for excellence in Archaeology, the Wiley Award for excellence in documentary film, the Secretary of the Interior’s Conservation Collaborative Partnership Award, the National Oceanic Partner’s Program Award, and the Emerald Award for excellence in environmental education.

Partnerships

The PAST Foundation offers practical, interactive project-based learning opportunities built on partnerships between academic institutions, government agencies, and industries and organizations. See Partnerships Below
