Conclusions on scientific issues should not be taken on faith. Assertions on scientific matters need to be able to pass the tests of openness, reproducibility, and peer review. Hypotheses on scientific matters put forward which can not meet these criteria should not be accepted as valid scientific conclusions by Wikipedia. Science conducted in secrecy without openness, reproducibility, and peer review should be dismissed as pseudoscience.

Science is an iterative process. At no point can it be assumed that the conclusions of a scientific theory are permanent and immutable.

On the topic of 9/11

All links which appear in this section are intended to be from Reliable Sources. If you see something here which does not qualify as reliable source, or which appears to be Original Research, or which does not conform to Wikipedia's standards in any other way, please feel free to say so.

I first acquired my Wikipedia account in January of 2007. My editing activity has tended to be somewhat random; usually just making corrections or improvements to whatever I happen to be looking up at the time. Topics have been as diverse as Motor oil, Mass spectrometry, and Sally Baker (Hobo Kelly).

In February 2009, I happened to browse across the September 11 attacks article; an issue commonly referred to as 9/11. Well... I was shocked. I had never seen an article with such a distinctly biased point of view on Wikipedia before. Somebody must have been asleep at the wheel on this one, was my impression. It completely excludes many well-known facts in the 9/11 saga (reliable references will be provided below), and presents little which is not in conformance with the "official" story provided by the governmental administration which was responsible for so many of the questionable actions and inactions which preceded and followed the attacks. This includes more than 1 million deaths, direct costs to the US treasury of more than $845 billion, torture, human rights violations, infringement on Americans' constitutional rights, strain on the American military with many soldiers rendered ill, disabled or dead, extensive cover-up of matters related to the 9/11 events, and other well-documented issues which were either directly related to 9/11, or which used it as a pretense for launching a "war on terror." Compared to the massive damage to lives and property wrought under the Bush Administration, the damage inflicted by the terrorists was small.

To its credit, the Wikipedia article does mention that the Bush administration was criticized for interfering with EPA interpretations and pronouncements regarding air quality; one of many efforts that was made by the Bush administration to interfere with the conveyance of accurate and important information to the public. Many people have suffered severe health problems as a result of that interference, as noted in the references.

The truth of 9/11 is that the only thing that we, the broad population, and the media know with any degree of certainty about 9/11, is that we dont know the full truth about 9/11. We know that there were extensive efforts at cover-up by the Bush Administration. (References will be provided below.) This puts the Bush Administration, and agencies operating under its authority, low on the totem pole of believability and reliability as sources for information about the 9/11 matter. There is much which remains to be investigated.

So what to do?

I've approached it cautiously. Very little editing, a few innocuous questions, with a little bit of followup.

The Call For Investigation

With a crime of stunning proportions having just been committed, one would expect that one of the first actions to be performed by the government would be to organize an aggressive investigation to find out exactly what happened, how it happened, and who was behind the crime. But no such investigation was forthcoming. Quite the opposite, in fact. The Bush Administration put up intense resistance to investigation of the 9/11 attacks. It wasn't until more than a year after the attacks had occurred that pressure from the families of the victims and others finally compelled the government to set up the 9/11 Commission. But the problems in obtaining an adequate investigation were far from solved. Problems which hindered the 9/11 commission from performing a full, complete, and independent investigation were extensive, and well documented. Wikipedia has an article which covers the problems with the 9/11 Commission and its investigation under Criticism of the 9/11 Commission. Wikipedia's main article on the September 11 attacks fails to convey just how extensive the problems were in obtaining any significant investigation into the 9/11 matter, and it fails to express the extent to which the Bush Administration used its authority to hinder investigation. The reader of the article must divert to other articles if they are to gain any impression on the magnitude of these issues.

Cover Up

• The Bush Administration resists the formation and funding of a body to perform an independent investigation.
• Bush and Cheney refuse to testify before the 9/11 Commission, except under extremely restrictive conditions.
• Allegations are made that false information was reported to the 9/11 Commission by NORAD and the FAA. The agencies exhibit reluctance to release tapes, emails, and other forms of evidence.
• Nearly all evidence at the World Trade Center site is rapidly removed and destroyed.
• A tape of Air Traffic Controllers made on 9/11 was destroyed by a supervisor without anyone making a transcript or having listened to it.
• The NIST refuses to disclose details of its modeling methods and parameters, and refuses to release collapse visualizations.

Additional Items Of Note

• The destruction of WTC 7 is not mentioned in the 9/11 Commission Report.
• The New York Times and families of Sept. 11 victims sue the City of New York for release of firefighter interviews and 911 calls under the Freedom of Information Act. The New York State Court of Appeals orders the release of the materials with some portions removed. The materials contain numerous accounts of explosions being heard and/or seen and some accounts of flashes being observed.

• The Office of Special Plans at the Pentagon manipulated intelligence to promote an agenda of removing Saddam. Raw intelligence pertaining to Iraq (unvetted by intelligence analysts, see Stovepiping) was supplied to senior Bush administration officials.

The Dust Tells The Story

• Materials consistent with nano-thermites have been found in the WTC dust. Nano-thermite composites have a much higher energy release rate than standard thermites, and can be formulated to function as high explosives. Red and gray chips, consistent with unreacted nano-thermitic material have been found in samples of the dust. End products indicative of a thermitic reaction, including iron-rich spheres, are also present in significant quantities.
