Timothy Allen (born 1971 in Tonbridge, Kent) is an English photojournalist best known for his reportage and ethnographic photography.
Allen grew up in Tonbridge, and after graduating from Leeds University he lived in Indonesia during the 1990s. He was a photographer at The Independent from 1999-2006 during which time he received many awards for his photography,[citation needed] including Arts Photographer of the Year presented to him by the British Prime Minister, Tony Blair.[1] He has been a member of Axiom Photographic Agency since 2002 and has worked with indigenous peoples throughout the world, most extensively in India and South East Asia. He has received six Picture Editors' Awards. He writes a weekly blog for the BBC, documenting his work photographing the world's indigenous societies for the documentary Human Planet.
