Kate Garner (born 9 July 1954, Wigan, Lancashire) is an English singer and photographer. Garner was one third of the trio of 1980s avant-garde, new wave pop project called Haysi Fantayzee, the other members being Jeremy Healy and Paul Caplin. Their music combined reggae, country and electro with political and sociological lyrics couched as nursery rhymes.[1]

Haysi Fantayzee combined their extreme clothes sense, described[who?] as "rasta meets hillbilly meets Dickens character meets pearly king and queen" with a quirky musical sound comparable to other new wave musical pop acts of the era, such as Bow Wow Wow, Adam and the Ants, Culture Club and Bananarama. They appeared several times on the popular BBC programme Top of The Pops. However, the group quickly disbanded after releasing two hit singles "John Wayne Is Big Leggy" and "Shiny Shiny", and an album that went gold.[citation needed]

Garner then launched a successful photographic career, working over a period of time with Sinéad O'Connor, creating many memorable images of her including her 1987 debut The Lion and the Cobra. Garner has also photographed many musicians and celebrities. Among them are: Dr Dre, Leigh Bowery, JT Leroy, Angelina Jolie, David Bowie, Cameron Diaz, PJ Harvey, John Galliano, Björk, and Kate Moss.[citation needed] Her work has appeared in the American and British versions of Vogue, Harper's Bazaar She has also worked for GQ. Vanity Fair, Elle, Sunday Times ect..[citation needed] She is a continuing contributor to i-D magazine.[citation needed]

She had her first exhibition in February 2007 at the Painter's Gallery on Charing Cross Road, London and a year later had an exhibition in San Francisco titled Identity Artists.[2] Her work will be in a group show at Riflemaker Gallery in January 2009.[3]. Her work can also be bought at Galerie13 in Paris. http://www.galerie13jm.com.

She recently designed a wallpaper collection which can be seen at [http://www.kategarner.org. The wallpaper is archived at the V&A.[citation needed]
