Krishna Shyamacharya Amur (Born 1931) is an Indian professor of mathematics in Differential geometry and a disciple of Sri Aurobindo. In 1970, he took over as Head of the department of mathematics [1], of the Karnataka University, Dharwar. Amur is the founder member of the Aurobindo society in Dharwar (1992) and the vice-president of Karnatak education board, Dharwar [2].

Amur is the younger brother of G. S. Amur a leading contemporary writer and critic in Kannada and English. K. S. Amur has guided[3] many students for their Ph.D.s in mathematics during his 30 years of professorship in mathematics at the Karnataka University, Dharwar.

Career

Born and raised in Suranagi village of Haveri taluka, he earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. (1962- Guide Prof C. N. S. Iyengar) in mathematics from the Karnataka University, Dharwar. He has published books in mathematics and over 30 papers [4] in his field of research. From 1960 to 1962, he was a professor of mathematics at the Karnatak College, Dharwar where he taught undergraduate classes in mathematics and in the year 1968, he was transferred as a lecturer to the Karnatak University department of mathematics, the graduate school center of mathematics. Amur was a postdoctoral fellow at the department of mathematics, University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill from 1967 to 1968 and again in 1984, he came to US on Indo-American fellowship program for a year.[5]

In 1978-80, he was acting Registrar of the Karnatak University, Dharwar. Currently since 2007, he has been working as the secretary of Sri Aurobindo society, Karnataka state. K. S. Amur is married to ಶ್ರೀಮತಿ. ರಾಧಾ ಆಮೂರ from Dharwar;she is actively engaged with the Karnataka Education society and Sri Aurobindo chapter of the Karnataka state.
