Jay Semko is known worldwide as singer/songwriter/bassist with Canadian pop icons, the Northern Pikes, who have had sales of over half a million albums through their career. As music composer for numerous film and television productions, most notably Canada's most successful series, "Due South", Jay has been nominated twice for Gemini Awards and has written (and won awards for) music scores for many films, television series and documentaries, and has received 2 awards from the Canadian Music Publishers Association for his songwriting in addition to receiving 8 Juno Award nominations for his work with the Pikes. His solo albums, songwriting, and film and television scores continue to garner him international recognition as one of Canada's most prolific and energetic music composers. His latest album, "International Superstar", has received stellar reviews and has charted in the top ten in many of the !earshot Folk, Roots and Blues Charts across Canada, and has been played extensively on CBC. The single, "She won't Be Lonely Long", has received airplay on commercial Country stations in Canada, and the video has been in rotation on CMT Canada. Jay is currently touring across Canada, and has co-written in Nashville and Canada with such writers as Willie Mack, Gilles Godard, Andrew Fromm, Roger Springer, Larry Haack, Jack Lenz, Tim Taylor, Steve Fox, Daryl Burgess, Sean Hogan, Paul Gross/David Keeley and many others. He has recorded with such notables as Garth Hudson(The Band), the late Stan Celeste (Jackson Browne, Crosby, Stills and Nash), John Sebastian(Lovin' Spoonful), Crystal Taliefero ( Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp), Margo Timmins (Cowboy Junkies), Bob Egan (Wilco, Blue Rodeo), Ashley MacIsaac and Serena Ryder, and and has toured with such artists as Bruce Hornsby, Robert Palmer, Tom Cochrane and Peter Frampton.

In addition, Semko's voice can be heard as the narrator for a number of documentaries and television and radio commercials, and has been involved in many other projects, including writing the music for a permanent installation at Saskatchewan's Western Development Museum.

In February 2009 Jay performed at the International Folk Alliance Conference in Memphis, Tennessee and in March 2009 he performed at the South By Southwest Music Conference in Austin, Texas. Jay was recently chosen as a finalist in the Gospel/Inspirational category in the worldwide songwriting competition John Lennon Songwriting Contest for his song "Jesus Is Gonna Help Me". He continues to perform occasionally with the Northern Pikes, and is currently recording his 4th solo album.
