Tangier Island is an island in lower Chesapeake Bay in the United States.[1]

Tangier Island is a part of Accomac County in eastern Virginia.[2] It lies in a part of the Chesapeake Bay called the Lower Eastern Shore. It actually is made up of many small islands divided by marshes and small tidal streams. The islands are connected by wooden bridges. The main island has three ridges, called Main Ridge, Canton, and West Ridge by the inhabitants of Tangier, a tiny settlement on the island. Some inhabitants have a Cornish accent that traces back to the Cornish settlers who settled there in 1686.[3]
