The Spirit of Hoyamal
Back in the old days, fishermen and pearl divers of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sailed on month-long trips to earn their living. They braved wind and waves, challenging loneliness and death.
“Hoyamleih, “Hoyamal” & “Hallamal” were chants to harness inner strength; a call to action, to uplift the spirit; these songs accompanied them through the darkness of the night and helped overcome whatever challenges that stepped in their way.
It is the spirit of challenge in these chants that has helped generations in the past and continues to drive us successfully into the future.
