This advances older vicinity standards ([[ISO 15693]]) by increasing both the number of tags in the field and the transmission speed. With PJM up to 1500 tags per second can be identified. It is deployed for identification of a large number of small, possibly stacked items which are packed in one container. Due to its speed this technology can be used on high speed [[conveyor belt]]s.

Phase Jitter Modulation (PJM) is an RFID Air Interface Standard used for fast identification of a large amount of stacked items. It is described and established in the ISO/IEC 18000-3 Part 3 Mode 2.

Method

An alternating magnetic field with a frequency of 13,56 MHz is used both for data transmission and power supply of the contactless tag. PJM falls into the category of "vicinity" RFID tags which means that the distance between the tag and reader can be up to 100 cm. This advances older vicinity standards (ISO 15693) by increasing both the number of tags in the field and the transmission speed. With PJM up to 1500 tags per second can be identified. It is deployed for identification of a large number of small, possibly stacked items which are packed in one container. Due to its speed this technology can be used on high speed conveyor belts.

Applications

Primary applications are in healthcare and pharmaceuticals but may also be useful in document and media management.
