Alexander Sims is a British racing driver.

He was born on the 15th of March 1988 and lives near Peterborough.

He is the current McLaren Autosport BRDC Young Driver of the Year.

Previous winners include David Coulthard, Dario Franchitti, Jenson Button, Anthony Davidson, Jamie Green, Paul Di Resta and Oliver Jarvis.

Alexander is currently racing with the German Mücke Motorsport team in the F3 Euro Series, as he pursues his goal to be driving in Formula 1 in the coming years. The Young Driver Award has secured Alexander a test with McLaren F1.

Alexander’s career began in kart racing when he competed in club competitions from the age of 10. In 2000 he won the Super 1 MSA Cadet Championship, the Kartmasters Grand Prix, the 5 Nations Cup and came second in the Champions of The Future British Cadet Championship.

He has risen through the ranks of motorsport winning numerous titles, notably the JICA British Championships, the Monaco Kart Cup, 3 times winner of the British Grand Prix and the Formula A World Championships Final 1.

He started his car racing career in late 2006, scoring a second place in his first ever car race in the Formula Renault Winter Series. In 2007 he raced in Formula Renault UK with Manor Competition, formerly known as Manor Motorsport.

2007 was a successful debut season for Alexander who was able to score his first victory of his car racing campaign in torrential conditions at Donnington Park during Round 11. He then secured a further two second place finishes to end the year in 8th position in the Championship.

In 2008 Alexander remained with Manor Competition in Formula Renault UK and scored more points than any other driver during the season. With the championship 'dropped score' rule, Alexander officially finished second in the championship which saw him amass more podium finishes than any other driver in the field.

In November of 2008 Alexander travelled to Macau to compete in the inaugural Formula BMW race. He qualified 3rd behind two BMW Europe regulars and recorded the fastest lap by some 4 tenths of a second.

In Alexander’s Formula 3 race debut (Round 1 F3 Euro Series at Hockenheim May 16th-17th) he set the fastest racing lap in race 1 and was top Rookie in race 2.

Having worked extremely closely over the years with his father, Christopher Sims, Alexander continues to pride himself in having got as far as he has without the support of any manufacturer young driver programs. He remains independent and has no contractual obligation other than that with Mucke Motorsport for 2009.

In 2008 Alexander was taken on by the MSA Elite Scheme which helps to develop young British racing drivers. He also achieved the Rising Star status from the BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club). After winning the McLaren Autosport BRDC award, he became a Full member of the BRDC.

In 2009 he remains on the MSA Elite Scheme and has been invited onto the ‘Superstar’ scheme with the BRDC

Alexander and his brother James are Directors of A15 Ltd. This company was set up for the purpose of undertaking contracts and financing Alexander’s career through sponsorship.

Christopher directs the family fruit importing business, J.O.Sims Ltd, and many of Alexander’s loyal sponsors have worked closely with J.O.Sims Ltd. The company was started in 1896 and is one of the oldest running fruit importers in the UK.

In 2009 many companies have announced their continued support for Alexander. These include Ocean Spray, Stemilt Growers, Cobana & Fruchtring, J.O.Sims Ltd, ILIP, Northern Fruit, Trout, PMC and Grant Thronton.

With the big financial step up to Formula 3 Alexander is very thankful of his current sponsors but is constantly working on trying to secure further support. He is by no means in a comfortable situation with funding and is constantly aware of the need to give his sponsors the best possible return for their money.

Being involved with the best prospect in British motorsport below F1 at the moment is fantastic for any company. With Alexander’s youth, elite strength and fitness level, professionalism, drive and determination, there are many attributes that he has in common with every world business.

With an underlying goal of being a professional racing driver, Alexander has clearly set out that his aim is to be in Formula 1 in the coming years.
