Stop the Islamification of Europe (SIOE) is an anti-Islamic[1] right-wing[2] political group in the United Kingdom. The group claims to oppose Islamic extremism[3] and have the motto "Racism is the lowest form of human stupidity, but Islamophobia is the height of common sense".[4] In September 2009 John Denham Labour's left-wing communities MP criticised the group and stated that it was "trying to provoke violence on Britain's streets". [5] The Trotskyite Socialist Workers Party front-organisation[6] Unite Against Fascism have opposed the group with riots against the police.[7][8]

Harrow protests

On September 11, 2009 SIOE staged a demonstration in Harrow which generated national and international media attention. The purpose of the demonstration was to campaign against the building of a five story mosque, which is under construction.[9] The Socialist Workers Party of Britain front organisation[10] Unite Against Fascism was present to oppose the demo and also Muslims who claimed to be there to "defend the mosque".[11][12][13][14] The Muslims and the far-left rioted, attacking the police with bricks, bottles and firecrackers.[15] The date of the protest coincided with the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. Eight arrests were made during the protests.[16]
