Wikipedia content can be readily copied between pages, but Wikipedia's licensing requires that attribution be given to the original author. For most pages, attribution is implemented by the page history, but copied content requires a link back to the source page.

Why attribution is required

Quotations from licensing documentation in lead of WP:Merge and delete. Is there a preferred order (alphabetical?) between CC-BY-SA and GFDL?

Proper attribution

  • Basic edit summaries
  • Deluxe edit summaries, oldids
  • {{Copied}}
  • {{R from merge}} if redirected – maybe not for this page

Avoiding copying

Content rewritten in one's own words does not need attribution. Bare references are not creative expression. Although not required in these cases, including a link is often useful.
