Amanda Dunbar was born in [[Thunder Bay]], [[Ontario]], and moved to Allen, [[Texas]] with her family. At the end of the eighth grade she signed up for an after-school art class where the instructor asked the class to paint something - anything - so that he could gauge their skill level. Dunbar picked up a brush and created "Mother's Touch", a portrait in the French impressionist style of a woman in a blue dress drying her small daughter after her bath. The impressed instructor quickly notified Dunbar's parents of her ususual skill. When she was young she liked many things such as cooking, drawing, acting, singing, etc. She never knew what she wanted to as she grew up. She thought she could be a nurse like her mother. 2006. At the age of 23, Amanda Dunbar was inducted into the Texas Women’s Hall of Fame in the Arts Category by Texas Governor Rick Perry. She is the youngest honoree to date and the only painter in history to join the elite group of accomplished women that includes former First Lady Barbara Bush and astronaut Sally Ride. Amanda Dunbar has supported artists and artist’s causes nationally through her participation in such causes as Gibson Guitar’s “Guitartown” projects, by judging Red Bull’s “Art of the Can” projects and through the Grammy’s Musicares Foundation and the Grammy Foundation. Although she supports many causes, her most visible children’s cause in Texas saw one of her paintings help raise enough money in an auction for the Texas Medical Association Foundation to help immunize 27,000 children in their “Be Wise, Immunize” program. Amanda traveled back to France to study at the Pont Aven School of Contemporary Art with the Rhode Island School of Design where she acquired her Post Baccalaureate certification.

2007 Amanda began studying for her MA in Art History at Southern Methodist University. She also began working with the World Craniofacial Foundation. Her charitable giving had exceeded $1million dollars catching the attention of the media. Amanda was profiled by ABC World News as America’s “Person of the Week” by Charles Gibson for her extraordinary art and life. She was also celebrated in her home town of Allen Texas where signage was placed throughout the city in her honor. She has remains a consistent positive female role model to her community.

2008 Amanda continued to work on her MA while also preparing her newest art collection entitled “Precious Rebels”. Her fully playable art guitars, clad in Swarovski crystal were released as part of a larger collection in the fall of 2008. Luxury retailer Neiman Marcus commissioned Amanda to create 3 limited edition designs to be sold exclusively through their stores and their Holiday Book 2008 as fantasy gift items. The remainder of the collection contains additional guitars, a chandelier and a grand piano. Her spectacular displays began touring in galleries and museums in 2009. European magazines began dubbing the collection “among the most beautiful and expensive guitars in the world”.

2009 Amanda continues her MA studies and has completed all but her thesis. In November she received an award of distinction from the Southern Methodist University Alumni Board for Emerging Leadership. Amanda also received the 2009 Americanism award from the Texas State DAR regents. (The award is given periodically to honor an outstanding naturalized US citizen.) In Jan, 2009 Amanda created the “Precious Rebel” Gibson Les Paul guitar for front man Chad Kroeger of the band Nickelback to play for the group’s opening performance at the Canadian Juno Awards. (The group later received 3 Junos) The group now plays the guitar during their 09’ European and American tours. Other performers have similarly commissioned their own Precious Rebels instruments. Likewise, the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences in Los Angeles placed a Precious Rebels art guitar in their collection honoring the Academy’s 50th anniversary.
Amanda Dunbar and Dunbar Studios will join a select group of luxury item retailers with guitars from the Precious Rebels collection at the upcoming Envy Expo in Los Angeles in November 2009. The Precious Rebels guitars will also be among the exclusive gift offerings of BOKKS London scheduled to open in the UK in October 2009 (followed by a global roll out in 2010/2011. Bokks is a gift giving company and project that is heavily assisted by Dustin Hoffman and Karl Lagerfeld.

During these challenging economic times, Amanda has seen a surge in attendances at her museum and gallery shows. The exhibits have expanded to include her Precious Rebels guitars in installations such as a chandelier and more. She works hard to bring meaningful art to people of all ages, colors and backgrounds. Her spiritually connected paintings, often of simple pleasures and beautiful imagery, continue to uplift people and give them a sense of hope and comfort. Additionally, Amanda’s philanthropy continues. She joined the Miami Guitartown project by painting a 10 foot tall guitar sculpture honoring the Miami Heat which was subsequently auctioned. She is also creating a large mural valued at over half a million dollars that will be donated to the Children’s Medical Center in her Dallas TX community. She has donated art to the adjoining Ronald MacDonald House in 2006. Amanda continues to be an ambassador for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children and a supporter of the Grammy’s Musicares Foundation, Grammy Foundation and a host of other reputable charitable organizations. Her donations to date are estimated to exceed $1.5M.
