Sieneke (born Sieneke Peeters, Nijmegen, 1 April 1992) is a Dutch singer. She performed the Dutch contribution on the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 semi-final, yet failed to place in final.

Eurovision

In 2010, Sieneke performed in the Dutch Nationaal Songfestival 2010 for the Eurovision Song Contest 2010, with all participants performing their own version of the song "Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie)". Though the Dutch audience was surprised that there was no public vote for this year's Songfestival, the winner was selected by 3 jury members. Sieneke won with 2 points with Pierre Kartner reluctantly giving the deciding vote. Sieneke represented the Netherlands in the Eurovision Song Contest 2010 in Oslo, Norway on May 27th, but did not qualify for the final.^[1]^[2]

Ik ben verliefd (Sha-la-lie) reached #1 in the Dutch Single Top 100 and #12 in the Dutch Top 40.^[3]

Plagiarism

Pierre Kartner was accused of stealing the melody and complete tune of the 1994 song 'Angelien' by Dutch musican Dick van Altena. Van Altena filed a complaint with Buma Stemra regarding plagiarism.^[3] The verdict was due on June 23rd and the claim could have lead to disqualification of Sieneke's performance, about a month after the competition.^[3] However, on May 6th, it became known that Van Altena had withdrawn his complaint after a suitable settlement, although he stated that the whole matter could have been handled clearer.^[4]
