Joseph "Joe" Thompson (born March 5, 1989 in Rochdale) is an English footballer, currently playing for Rochdale. He has played professionally for the club in the Football League.

Career

Joe was originally born in Bath before moving north to Rochdale. Seen as local boy Thompson made his debut for Rochdale in May 2006 against Carlisle United during the 2005–06 season.[1] The 2006–07 season saw him make 13 appearances and win the League Two Apprentice award.[2][3]

Thompson scored a hattrick on January 31st 2009 during Rochdale's 4-2 away win over Aldershot.A year later Thompson also scored a vital late brace against luton in the FA Cup to take the fixture to a replay.


Thompson signed a new one year contract with Rochdale in the summer of 2009, starting the new season with a goal and a man of the match performance against Port Vale. Since then he has recently signed a new contract for Rochdale A.F.C for the next 2 years.
