La Fortuna is a rural city located in San Carlos, in the province of Alajuela, Costa Rica.
Accessible from the capital city San José, La Fortuna is the gateway[opinion] to the Arenal Volcano, one of Costa Rica's most active volcanoes. Located about 10 kilometers away from town and regularly spewing smoke and ash, the Volcan Arenal is the country’s top-rated tourist attraction.[citation needed] Over the last few years in particular, La Fortuna has become an active town.[citation needed]
Beside the volcano, this town has other tourist attractions like the La Catarata de la Fortuna, a waterfall that falls from a height of 70 meters. Another nearby attraction[opinion] is the Tabacon Hot Springs in the area.
