Classical Variations and Themes is the debut studio album by former Stratovarius guitarist Timo Tolkki, released in 1994 on Goldenworks Ky. The album has elements similar Stratovarius material that Tolkki incorporated into earlier works; as some songs are more emphasised towards Power Metal, however more in the Heavy Metal direction rather than Power Metal's Speed Metal influence. All songs on the album are instrumentals besides Fire Dance Suite in where Tolkki performs the vocals. A film clip was released for Fire Dance Suite. Fire Dance Suite made an appearance on the compilation The Past and Now, despite it being a Stratovarius release. The personnel include Timo Tolkki with Antti Ikonen and Tuomo Lassila from the Dreamspace line-up, performing their respective roles. Tolkki performs the bass guitar on the album. Fire Dance Suite was written for Stratovarius back in 1986.
