Easington is a ward and former village in the south-west of the market town of Banbury. It has a public house called The Easington[1] and many local amenities including a sports field. The Timms estate [2][3] and Poets' Corner estates[4] are also part of the ward which contains many new style homes. The A361 and A4260 roads pass adjacent to the estate. The estate was built between the 1930's and 1940's as the local industry began to grow, with a large exspanin in the early 1960's, due to the London overspill. The ward is regarded as rather toffish, upper class and is generaly more wealthyer than the rest of the town.

Local politics

The Easington ward is traditionally a Conservative Party and stayed Conservative Party during the 2006 local elections for Cherwell District Council, but the ward had changed to one Labour councillor and one Conservative Party councillor in the previouse elction of 2002. The Green party candate lost in 2006.

Conservative Party still holds control for the Easington ward for the Banbury Town Council and Oxfordshire County Council.

The Liberal Democrats, Green party and UKIP field no candidates in the ward durig 2006. A lone Liberal Democrat ran in the Hardwick estate only.

Schools

Two of Banbury's biggest secondary schools as well as one primary school are located in Easington.
