People of the State of California v. Conrad Robert Murray is the prosecution of Dr. Conrad Murray for manslaughter in relation to the death of Michael Jackson.

The jury selection of Conrad Murray's trial began on September 8, 2011 in Los Angeles. Out of 187 potential jurors, all had heard of the case and 115 of those were dismissed for hardship reasons. The remaining jurors filled out a lengthy questionnaire of 30 pages on what the jurors knew of the case. The questionnaire also included questions about the potential jurors opinions on drugs, doctors and law enforcement.[1]

The trial began on September 27, 2011 with the trial estimated to take four to six weeks.[2][3]

Both lawyers have made their opening speeches. Through a Powerpoint presentation, the jury viewed a photograph of a deceased Michael Jackson lying on a gurney, taken minutes after he was declared dead. The jury also heard a tape of Jackson's slurred speech near the end of his life, and the first witness has been called. On September 28th, Michael Amir Williams, a second witness had been called. Mr. Williams was known as Michael Jackson's personal assistant and also works with Jackson's security.[4]

Murray's attorney Ed Chernoff, in his opening statement told the court that Murray isn't to blame for Jackson's death, that Jackson gave himself a dose of drugs that killed him so quickly Jackson "didn't even have time to close his eyes." While he gave his statements, an emotional Murray wiped away tears.

"What happened during that time frame is that the acts and omissions of Michael Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray directly led to his premature death at age 50," prosecutor Walgren said. "That misplaced trust in Conrad Murray cost Michael Jackson his life."[5]

On the third day of testimony in the Conrad Murray trial [6] two former members of Michael Jackson’s staff, bodyguard Alberto Alvarez and Chef Kai Chase, took the stand Thursday (September 29).
