Copyright violations

I'm sorry all your "work" has been wasted, but large parts of those articles were copy/pasted from other websites and are therefore violating copyright and illegal. Wikipedia has to take copyright seriously or it could be open to lawsuits. Chaos syndrome 20:35, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Unfortunately, once the copyright material is in the article, any further modifications become a "derivative work" and also illegal, even if the copyright material is removed as a result of the modification. This basically means we can't just take out the copyrighted work and leave the rest of the article.

Therefore there are two options: either to revert to the article as it was before the copyright material was put in, or to blank the article and replace it with the warning notice. Either way, your "hours of work" gets destroyed in the process. Sorry about that, but unless Wikipedia acts within the law, we are open to legal action. Chaos syndrome 21:03, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Hurricane Devon, your conduct is a serious concern here. Accusing someone of vandalism when they are sorting out copyright violations is extremely rude. You've unjustifiably accused me of vandalism before as well - if you carry on behaving like this I will lodge a request for comment. Devon, I am disappointed to see your behavior here. Do not copy material from other web sites. It is illegal and unethical to copy someone else's work in this manner. Doing so creates more work for other contributors to clean up after you, and puts Wikipedia in precarious legal position. It is not vandalism to remove copyright violations. Please don't accuse people of vandalism without justification. You have been doing so well since last year, but I will be forced to block you again if you persist in this manner.
