Career

Tishma is a highly successful rock music singer from Bangladesh who also brought many changes to the Bangladesh rock music scene and is single-handedly responsible for entirely changing and modernizing the role of Bangladeshi female singers. Tishma has created many musical "firsts" for Bangladeshi artists: amongst Bangladeshi female artists, Tishma is the first female professional music composer, arranger, guitarist and keyboardist ever in Bangladesh, and she introduced hiphop, rap, experimental, r&b, opera soul, funk, ballads, disco, alternative, rap, and many more international genres in Bangladesh; in addition, Tishma wrote and sang the first English song by a female singer in Bangladesh, and she is also the first Bengali female rapper and female hard rock singer of the Bengal subcontinent.[1]

Since Tishma was the pioneer in her field, at first although Tishma gained tremendous popularity and instantly became a household name with the listeners, in the beginning she also faced some criticism because she was making such major changes in Bangla music; but soon afterward, when she successfully had established her own unique innovative and rocking musical styles and exceptional versatility and talent, she gained huge appreciation both for her courage as a musician and as a trailblazer in Bangla music, and also as a strong feminist icon for women and girls, and now today many female artists are following Tishma as their role model.[1]

Tishma has studied both Indian and Western classic music from childhood and has released songs in various genres including rock, Bangla folk, opera, rap, classical, experimental, alternative, Nazrul, Rabindra Sangeet and Adhunik. Tishma is renowned for changing the face of Bangla music, with her powerful vocal, unique style, stunning stage presence and trendsetting ways in both music and fashion.[2]

Tishma's debut album was released in 2002; she released a total of eight albums within just four and a half years, and is the only Bangladeshi teenage artist in history to have achieved this record.[2] Tishma's popularity is only paralleled by the older folk singer Mumtaz. Tishma's ninth and newest album is titled Xperiment, and this album was fully tuned, composed and arranged by Tishma herself.[1]

Biography

Popularly known among her fans as the "Rock Princess and Pop Diva of Bengal", the Bangladeshi teenage rock superstar Tishma is the girl who completely changed the Bangla music scene forever and is the artist who entirely changed and modernised the path for Bangladeshi female singers, with her sensational debut as a child star in 2002. Tishma was the first fully Westernised artist in Bangladesh, introducing styles which were never before seen or heard in Bangladesh before Tishma. Her debut album "Tara" was launched in the year 2002 from Sangeeta and from that moment, Bangladeshi music was changed forever by the young powerhouse diva. Tishma was the first artist of her kind in Bangladesh...there was nobody like Tishma before she came to the scene in 2002...but in recent years, many artists have tried to closely follow Tishma's every aspect after watching Tishma's massive success as a daring & experimental musician, though none have come close to achieving her level of fame and success to this date.[1]

At a time when no other female artist dared to experiment with neither music nor fashion, the young star Tishma was the girl who dared to introduce so many brand new dimensions to Bangladesh in 2002 when she was only a child artist. She is not only the country's first true Westernized female artist but also the first female composer, English singer-songwriter, rapper, pianist/keyboard-player & guitarist. Young Tishma, who was merely a child artist at the time, immediately became the ultimate icon for teenage girls around the country and the heart-throb dream-girl of all the teenage boys! She was also beloved by the older crowd for her sweet vocals...but her greatest fans became the children and even babies. Her first hit song was named "Bashiwalla" and since it was the most beloved by children who were simply hypnotised by her music, Tishma was nicknamed the "Bashiwalla (Flutist) of Hamelin"!

Tishma is the girl who single-handedly changed the face of Bangla music and she is the one who first totally changed & modernised the entire path for female singers in Bangladesh in every single way. Tishma's debut album was released well before her O levels, when she was just a young schoolgirl. Storming into the Bangla pop scene as a child artist with her debut album "Tara" (Star) in 2002, Tishma was instantly crowned the queen of rock with her mind-blowing style of music. She created a unique style of her own known as "Tishma-pop",and she simply single-handedly changed the face of Bangla pop music forever. So powerful is Tishma's image, that today, virtually not a single new female pop artist exists who has not been influenced by Tishma in some way or another. And since her phenomenal debut in 2003, Tishma (who is also famous for her Hollywood-star good looks and unique iconic, heavily-imitated fashion style of her very own) has remained the ultimate Pop Icon and trendsetter in music and fashion trends in Bangladesh. Today almost all new female singers of Bangladesh follow Tishma as their music and fashion icon! Being a true musical pioneer, Tishma has created many musical "firsts" for Bangladeshi artists: amongst Bangladeshi female artists, Tishma is the first female music composer, music director and music arranger Bangladesh. She is also the first female sound engineer, first female DJ and first female who has a professional-level knowledge of playing virtually all musical instruments. As well as composing, creating tracks and even writing songs, Tishma is also the first female professional pianist, guitarist and keyboardist ever in Bangladesh. She is the singer and writer of the first original English song ever released in Bangladesh by a female artist.

She introduced many other genres of music to Bangladesh including hiphop, rap, experimental, r&b, opera soul, funk, ballads, disco, alternative, rap, and many more international genres in Bangladesh. In addition, Tishma wrote and sang the first English song by a female singer in Bangladesh, and she is also the first Bengali female rapper and female hard rock singer of the Bengal subcontinent. Since Tishma was the pioneer in her field, at first although Tishma gained tremendous popularity and instantly became a household name with the listeners, in the beginning she also faced some criticism because she was making such major changes in Bangla music; but soon afterward, when she successfully had established her own unique innovative and rocking musical styles and exceptional versatility and talent, she gained huge appreciation both for her courage as a musician and as a trailblazer in Bangla music, and also as a strong feminist icon for women and girls. Tishma is renowned for changing the face of Bangla music, with her powerful vocal, unique glamorous style, stunning stage presence and trendsetting ways in both music and fashion, and now today many female artists are following Tishma as their role model!

Tishma is renowned for changing the face of Bangla music, with her powerful vocal, unique glamorous style, stunning stage presence and trendsetting ways in both music and fashion, and now today many female artists are following Tishma as their role model!

Tishma, who has created her own unique style and genres with her immense talent, showed an obsession with music from a very early age. Tishma began to hum tunes from even before she had learned to talk, and she first began playing the keyboard from the age of three; her musical education began soon after. She has trained intensely in music from a very young age and is one of the only Bangladeshi musicians who has obtained complete education in both Western and Indian classical music under several famous Ustads, as well as also studying Rabindra Sangeet and Nazrul Sangeet. Tishma is God-gifted with a stunning, incredibly versatile voice that is capable of singing any genre on the planet, and she also learned to play most musical instruments. Though Tishma is known as the country's rock queen, she interestingly also has the most versatile singing voice in Bangladesh, with an incredible and extremely rare five-octave voice range. This stunning range is showcased in songs such as Tishma's "Brishti Chuey Jaey" and her self-composed "Raater Tara Hoye Jabo". Tishma can sing all genres of music from hard rock and hip hop and rap to complex operas and Rabindra Sangeet and Indian classical, and everything in between! So versatile a singer is she that anyone who hears songs by Tishma in different genres at first has a difficult time believing that the songs are performed by the same singer! For her stunning voice and talent, Tishma has received both international awards in European classical music and of course all the topmost national music awards as well. She is the only singer in Bangladesh who has received training in both European classical music and Indian classical music. Aside from being an exceptionally talented singer, Tishma is also as highly skilled pianist and music composer who is well-versed in playing almost all music instruments, as well as having formidable DJ and engineering abilities. She is one of the only musicians of today who composes, plays and writes their own music without the assistance of artificial loops or software, and instead plays all her own sounds by herself. She is also the first Bangladeshi music composer whose work has been released internationally.

Tishma is an international celebrity whose popularity goes far beyond the borders of Bangladesh. Aside from her musical work within the country, she frequently tours overseas to sing for her fans around the globe. She has shared the stage with stars such as Shreya Ghosal, Sunidhi Chauhan, Adnan Sami, Bappi Lahiri, and Sonu Nigam. Despite being based in Bangladesh, her music videos are also regularly aired on TV channels in India, the Middle East, the USA, Europe and Russia.
