Untitled

Frequency Unknown is the first album by Geoff Tate's version of the band Queensrÿche after the Tate was expelled by his former bandmates from the original band. It is due to be released on Cleopatra Records on April 23, 2013.[1]

Background

Queensrÿche's previous album, Dedicated to Chaos, was released in 2011 to a mixed reception, with some reviewers giving good reviews,[2] and others panning the album due to great stylistic differences from previous albums.[3][4]

Furthermore, it became apparent that there were tensions in the band between lead vocalist Geoff Tate, and the rest of the band. These tensions openly manifested themselves at a concert on April 14, 2012 in São Paulo, Brazil when Tate, who was irate over the firing of his wife and step-daughter as the band's manager and fanclub manager, respectively, allegedly physically assaulted and spat on drummer Scott Rockenfield and guitarist Michael Wilton.[5][6] After hoping to reconcile with Tate, Rockenfeld, Wilton, bassist Eddie Jackson, and guitarist Parker Lundgren decided to fire Tate. Meanwhile Jackson, Lundgren, Rockenfeld and Wilton had been working with another vocalist, Todd La Torre, under the name "Rising West", playing material from the first five Queensrÿche albums. Following Tate's expulsion from the band, LaTorre was officially announced as Tate's replacement.[7]

Tate subsequently filed a lawsuit disputing ownership of the band name, and started his own version of the band featuring former Queensrÿche guitarist and longtime producer Kelly Gray, guitarist Glen Drover (Eidolon, King Diamond, Megadeth), bassist Rudy Sarzo (Blue Öyster Cult, Ozzy Osbourne, Quiet Riot, Whitesnake), drummer Bobby Blotzer (Ratt) and keyboardist Randy Gane.[8]

The album's title, release date, tracklisting and artwork was announced on the same day as the Todd La Torre-fronted version of the band announced when their album would be released.[1][9]

Frequency Unknown will feature several re-recorded songs from the Queensrÿche back catalog as bonus tracks.[1]
