Mark Robert Karpelès or Karpeles (born 1 June 1985) is the CEO of Bitcoin exchange Mt. Gox.[1][2] He was born in Chenôve, France, and moved to Japan in 2009.[3]
Early life
Karpeles was born in Chenôve in 1985, the only child of Anne Karpeles[4], a realtor[5]. Between 1995 and 2000 Karpeles was educated at Collège Prieuré de Binson in Châtillon-sur-Marne and Prieuré De Binson in Dormans.[1] He then spent one year at Lycée Claude Bernard in Paris, before compeleting his education in 2003 at Lycée Louis Armand in Paris.[1]
Computer career
According to Karpeles' LinkedIn page, he worked from 2003 to 2005 at Linux Cyberjoueurs as a software developer and network administrator.[6]
As CEO of Mt.Gox, Karpeles is currently under extreme scrutiny for insolvency and the disappearance of somewhere around 800,000 Bitcoin. Mt.Gox announced they would file for bankruptcy protection at a Japanese press conference on February 28th, 2014.
