Matt Ritter (born 7 September 1974, in Nicolaus, California) is an author, editor and botany professor at California Polytechnic State University at San Luis Obispo. He specializes in cultivated trees, especially those in the genus Eucalyptus. He is Editor-in-Chief of Madroño, the journal of the California Botanical Society. He is the coordinator of the Official California Register of Big Trees. Ritter is a contributing author to the second edition of the Jepson Manual and the Flora of North America Project. In 2011 he won the R. W. Harris Excellence in Education Award, International Society of Arboriculture.
