::First: List username change requests on WP:CHU. Placing them on individual bureaucrat's talk pages isn't a good way to get fast action (as we may or may not be around, and nobody else will see it).

::Second, account names are first-come-first-served, so nothing we can really do about it. As I understand it, those with the best-claims to given usernames will be given preference, but the developers would be the people to ask about that. <span style="font-family: Verdana"><font color="#7b68ee">Essjay</font> <font color="#7b68ee">(<small><font color="#7b68ee">Talk</font> • <font color="#7b68ee">Connect</font></small>)</font></span> 08:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

Ouch, Maru. EChronicle, the quick answer is that there are not actually 10 individual, distinct statments in the scriptural "10 Commandments." In order to get a list of 10, you have to merge some together; the difference in the lists is that Catholics merge a different two than Protestants do. I don't know of any sites off the top of my head that I would recommend, but Maru's link may be helpful.

The short answer, though, is that it's just a matter of how you turn the 15 statements in Exodus 20 that form the "10 Commandments" into a list of ten. If you merge together the "first two", it's Catholic, if you merge the "last two" is Protestant. <span style="font-family: Verdana"><font color="#7b68ee">Essjay</font> <font color="#7b68ee">(<small><font color="#7b68ee">Talk</font> • <font color="#7b68ee">Connect</font></small>)</font></span> 08:27, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

OTO pop in request... revisited

Yesterday I asked if you could help solve an issue at the Ordo Templi Orientis article. You archived the discussion... but I want to bring the comments back because they show a more serious problem...

Hi Essjay... it seems you are becoming the "go to guy" for all things Freemasonic. We are having an argument at Talk:Ordo Templi Orientis#More on citations concerning wikipedia guidelines (specificly WP:RS) and the only way forward is to ask an admin to pop over, read the talk page arguments on both sides, and give us a ruling. If you are not the best person for this, could you tell me who is? Thanks. Blueboar 00:50, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

Another admin (Jpgordon) had popped in and tried to mediate... but now we can not agree on what his comments mean. Please help. Blueboar 00:46, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
Hey Essjay. You're more than welcome to drop in. Its a standard argument for web site sources which Blueboar is having trouble understanding. He wants to include the United Grand Lodge of England (the main Freemasonry web site) as a source for claims that the Ordo Templi Orientis make on their main web site. The fact of the matter is, the United Grand Lodge of Englands web site doesnt mention the Ordo Templi Orientis. To keep it short, he wants the source left in, I wish it left out per Wikipedia. Any comments would be appreciated as I know you are a busy person. Zos 02:16, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

Zos was partly correct ... it is a standard argument. However he is completely misrepresenting what I want to do... I do NOT want to include UGLE as a sorce for claims that OTO makes on their website ... I want to use it to veryfy something that UGLE says on the UGLE website. I have to queston whether Zos is being honest, because I had been making this point repeatedly for over an hour before he wrote his comment to you. This is turning into a NPOV dispute that is getting quite heated (Jpgordon has already had to lock the page to prevent further revert wars.) About the only thing that Zos and I can agree on right now is that we respect your oppinion and will abide by any informal discision you have time to render. Jpgordon is trying to help, but he admits that he may be a bit biased as he a former OTO member (that's not an accusation... he raised the issue of a possible bias upon showing up to help). I do know you are busy... but even a short visit might help. Blueboar 04:21, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

RfCU Clerks

Hey Essjay, I was wondering if you could use some more clerks on RfCU. I'm a little under the weather at the moment; however, once I get feeling better, I'd like to help out there in any way that I can. Thanks. AmiDaniel (talk) 23:53, 21 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Simple Maintenance

Hi there, Essjay. I've heard you can delete individual edits; I'd like it if you could delete my last two (totally redundant) edits at Image:Terry Mulholland.jpg. I didn't clear my browser cache and couldn't understand why the picture wouldn't update, so I uploaded the same thing three times in a row. Deleting those edits might avoid possible confusion. Thanks! Grandmasterka 08:53, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Generally speaking, the use of the "Oversight" permission (what you're referring to) is used to remove private/personal information from previous revisions and edit summaries. For instance, there is a vandal who keeps adding Admin phone numbers to summaries, because he knows they're difficult to remove. It's not really intended to hide mistaken edits (I personally don't think it's that confusing an entry, an admin can look at the previous uploads anyway if anyone has any questions, alternatively a talkpage mention might not be inappropriate.)
If you'd like to see a list of users with the Oversight permission, check this list please. 207.145.133.34 16:36, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm assuming you just wanted the two redundant image uploads deleted (which does not require oversight permissions). I've deleted them for you. AmiDaniel (talk) 18:59, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, friend. I'm a bit besides myself here. Please keep an eye on WP:CHU and change that user's name as soon as the application is up. El_C 10:51, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Please ignore the above, I've indefintely blocked the user. Best, El_C 20:01, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Password reset

Hi there,

My username is 'Ivan Bilenjkij' and I accidentaly clicked on 'email new password' as I tried to log in. Now, the email address that I have on wikipedia is inactive (it is ivan@apolune.com) so I cannot retrieve the password that was sent to me. My current email address is ibilenjkij@yahoo.com, or ivan.bilenjkij@directenergy.com is my address at work. Can you help?

Thanks,

Ivan Bilenjkij, Toronto, Onario, Canada.

Ivan, that shouldn't be a problem. Your old password will remain in effect until the link sent in the email is clicked. So if you don't receive the email, then the password cannot be reset. Try logging in again. --GraemeL (talk) 22:16, 22 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Essjay! I hope I did the right thing here: [1] [2]. I went ahead an removed the RfA, as it's evident that it will not succeed and only more oppositions will take place. I talked to some admins about it on IRC and they also believe it's best this way. I also went and added the RfA to here. If you believe that any of these actions were wrong, please tell me and I will correct it for the future. Thanks! :) G.He 00:34, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, user has been blocked after claiming to be a vandal [3]... G.He 04:23, 23 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Spam blacklist delisting request

An editor has requested that a domain that you have added, odessa.ua, be removed from the blacklist. Thre reason that you have listed for this domain's inclusion is "spam domain". If you could please visit the discussion on Meta and comment, that'd be great. Thanks, Naconkantari 03:58, 24 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Ten Commandments...

I noticed the following sentence under the section "Public monuments and controversy in the USA" (on the Ten Commandments page): As seen above, any attempt to post the Decalogue on a public building necessarily takes a sectarian stance; Protestants and Roman Catholics number the commandments differently.

Could you maybe link me to a website that verifies that or explains how that's true?

Thanks! --EChronicle 19:39, 25 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Learn to google. It'll be very helpful in the future.
