Companisto is an international equity-based crowdfunding website. It was founded by the lawyers David Rhotert and Tamo Zwinge in June 2012, in Berlin. Investments are between 5 and 500,000 Euros per Investor with no limit on how much funding a startup can raise.[1]

About

Companisto claims to have a very much focus on quality. “The other platforms have an approach where there are a lot of campaigns and virtually anyone can upload one to the site. But of course, that leads to having quite a few campaigns that don’t have very high potential. Our startups and investment proposals are usually startups that have already gotten substantial investments from business angels or VCs.”[2]

Companisto has over 30,000 investors from 67 countries.

Companisto ist member of the European Crowdfunding Network.

History

Companisto investors have funded 18 startups in the first twelve months.[3] As of April 10, 2014, 29 startups were funded with a collective amount of 5 Million € by investors from 47 different countries.[4][5][6]

With the funding of Wonderpots (500,000 € in one week by 892 investors) Companisto broke a European crowdfunding record.[7] In July, 2014 Weissenhaus raised 1.2 Million € in first 3.5 days in Europe's first ever real estate crowdfunding.[8][9] In August, 2014 it reached 4 Million €, making it the biggest crowdinvesting in Europe.[10][11]

Since March, 2014, the English-language site has allowed submissions from any business based in Europe, and investments from anywhere in the world.[4][12]

In April, 2014, Companisto opened an office in Zurich, Switzerland.[13][14]

In November 2014 early Investors of Companisto (called Companists) where offered the possibility of a 100 Percent Return after 2.5 Years.[15] Of the Companists who participated in the vote, 31.89 % voted for the offer, and the other 68.11 % voted against it. Consequently, the offer was rejected, and Companists will keep their shares in Companisto.[16]
