Mendeira is a village in the Portuguese parish of Cernache de Bonjardim, having fewer than twenty inhabitants. Climbing Mount Mendeira gives you a superb view over the whole area, situated in a meander of the river Zêzere. Since 2004 the Dutch artist Els Smulders-Waijers lives, part-time, in Mendeira. There she finds rest and inspiration for her work.
